My baby is approaching 6 months old and definitely showing readiness for food--that part I'm sure of.

I have questions about actually doing it though. She's been breastfed only so far. I am planning to give her rice cereal mixed with breastmilk. So just for starting--how often should I do this? Once a day, twice?

Now that she's going to start with rice cereal, and next a vegetable of some sort--should I start giving her some water to drink also? If yes, how much? If not, when do I start?

Any other tips?? I am clueless.

I'm doing BLW, so I don't have advice regarding that part. I offer water when I give LO solids, partially to get into the habit of it and partially because I know constipation becomes a problem with a lot of babies when they start solids and I'd like to avoid that if possible!

Check out the weaning section of this forum, there's a ton of useful information there! :flower:

Just do it bit by bit every week. Add some plain and very smooth cereal to milk but not too much at first. Try spoon feeding the runny milk cereal as well to start the process of sitting in high chair ( if baby is in high chair) and then add foods little by little every week. Bland stuff at first and always very runny / puréed to avoid choking at that stage. You will eventually find out what baby likes and needs and it will come naturally. Just step by step and slowly is best.
