Is anyone else not giving into the food restriction hysteria?

No offense but the 'I am eating this should I feel guilty' posts is a bit childish is it not...There is nothing wrong with women following the guidelines because they feel safer doing so just like the women who eat what they want cos they don't worry about it....either way it does not matter and it does not effect u if someone does not share ur views on things.

and there's nothing wrong with some of us trying to make what was supposed to be a light thread, light again. Seriously... as pregnant women we are constantly bombarded with negativity... it's okay to laugh.
Ur very right but it might just come across like a 'dig' at the women who were criticized for giving their opinion earlier & hormones don't help either I assume :haha:

"I can eat all the chocolate I want, but if I eat a piece of raw sushi, I'm abusing my unborn child?" Actually, you can't eat all the chocolate you want. Because chocolate contains caffeine

Okay, substitute pizza for chocolate.
.

... can I substitute pizza for a bottle of gin? How about if I get a craving for petrol? (see how using extremes in an argument is actually kind of ridiculous?)

Anyway, my point is that, as so many people have now said, this is a personal choice. Risk levels are interpreted differently by different people. What any of you choose to eat or not eat is entirely your own choice - there is no need for any of these "look what I'm eating that you've decided you can't have" posts.

You choose the level of risk you are happy to expose your baby to - if mine is lower or higher than yours then it's really not something to throw back in anyone's face. I must admit I'm feeling a bit attacked here simply for explaining why I have chosen to follow the guidelines. I don't appreciate being made to feel like I'm being paranoid.

FYI - I have also chosen to stop playing softball this season. Because there is a risk, however small, of me falling/being hit in the belly etc. You can play whatever sports you like - just like the foods, this is what I have chosen because I think it would be selfish of me to risk my pregnancy for an hour of sport a week, which I can start playing again in a few months time. Sorry if that offends anyone who decides to carry on playing.

it really isn't, those 'do not do' lists for pregnant ladies are ridiculously extreme sometimes... if I don't laugh, I'll go crazy. I come here to relax, get things of my chest, and enjoy the companionship of ladies experiencing what I am without fear of judgement - I totally get how hormones blow everything out of proportion though, like PMS on steroids! :flower:

We're all in this together... and like I said, bombarded with negativity from all sides... there's absolutely no need for it to happen here.

Do what you want, and I'll do what I want and I'm sure we'll both have happy, healthy babies.:flower:

Yeah I know, with that respect in mind I kind of wish I was like the ladies that don't worry about it as much as I do but I'm afraid I was born worried so it is not gonna change any time soon

So you have sussed a bit I reckon :flower:

It's a lot easier to not worry as much when I've gone through it all before and everything was fine... I can see in your siggy that you experienced the loss of a baby and if I was in your shoes, I can only imagine how safe I would be playing everything. I do avoid some things, I've had food poisoning and can't imagine going through that while I was pregnant. But I've had good chats with my doctor about those 'lists'... and I just personally can't live in fear of soft serve ice cream or grapes.

I think it's a whole load of twoddle! I eat what I want when I want apart from tuna as I worry about the mercury so only eat that maybe once a week. I love blue cheese dressing and have been avoiding that but might have a little this weekend mmmmmmmm!

Forgive me if im wrong but wasnt this originaly started as a thread for those that choose not to follow guidlines of food and asking for likeminded people that ate what they wanted.
So isnt the "i choose to eat this" post actualy relevant and to the point if the actual thread.
While I agree fully everyone should make their own choices and has a right to eat or avoid what they like moaning at others posting what they eat in thread made for posting about what you dont avoid just seems a bit argumentative.

I almost dare not ask but whats wrong about grapes?

And yeah unfort. we had to let go of a baby with Trisomie 18 2 years ago, and whilst this obviously has nothing to do with what one eats or does...I just want to do everything I can which ain't allot already anyway to have this baby. So for me personally I just want to do it 'right' for me.

Apparently the levels of pesticides are really high in them or something? But I eat them all the time... and so does DS - and they're hard to find in organic.

I'm really sorry for your loss.

Oh I did not know that, I reckon most fruits and veg have that issue tho, just gotta make sure they get washed properly. Otherwise I would not eat any fruit anymore :dohh:

Thank you hun, appreciate it. Ur wee one is very adorable btw :flower:

yeah I saw on pinterest something about soaking fruits/veg in a vinegar/water mix for a bit before eating - might give it a shot! I always thought grapes were safe because the skin seems so thick and that a quick rinse would be sufficient.

Thank you <3

There's nothing like a whole thread full of pregnant ladies "debating" over who's right and wrong to get me through eating my foot long from Subway  :winkwink:

Ah bekkie! You're the best xx

Ok... I have to ask... what is the whole thing about peanut butter not being safe?

I ask because I have pb & j sandwiches all the time. I get a jar of it from WIC once a month and I usually use it up before it's time to get another.

I think it's because they previously thought that eating peanuts during pregnancy meant that he baby was more likely to have a peanut allergy. They since found no evidence, so in the UK at leas, we are told we can eat peanuts as long as there is no history of peanut allergy in the family.

I had to give up, kept dripping my honey and mustard sauce on the phone :)
