Is anyone else not giving into the food restriction hysteria?

I think it's because they previously thought that eating peanuts during pregnancy meant that he baby was more likely to have a peanut allergy. They since found no evidence, so in the UK at leas, we are told we can eat peanuts as long as there is no history of peanut allergy in the family.

Ok... just wondering because there was nothing about peanut butter/nuts in any of the guidelines I was given. I'm in the US.

I haven't been eating heaps of deli meat, but felt like a hot ham and cheese roll, so went and made it for myself. I will drink coffee when/if I feel like it (which has only been once early on). I love cheese, so have been eating it if it is in front of me. Really craving some sushi, but probably won't have any unless it's made fresh from sushi train or similar. Most likely will avoid the raw fish anyway.

Just playing it sensible, because I gave myself food poisoning at 10 weeks pregnant and I sure as hell don't want to go through that again... (Ate some potato salad that had been out of the fridge for too long...)

There is more risk from listeria from Fruits and veggies (even when washed) than items on the 'restricted list'. The biggest listeria outbreak in the US was from cantelope! Organic produce is not immune either. When my oldest was one, he contracted salmonella while we were on vacation, from spinach at a very reputable restaurant. We know how we contracted it as we were wrapped into a big investigation. He was sick for a long time, but we don't live in fear. We still eat out. My Obgyn had been in practice 40+ years, and has never seen a pregnant woman lose a baby from listeria.

Which is why when advising on food and drink in pregnancy they don't just tell you what not to eat they advise on cooking food properly, reheating food, not letting raw food mix, washing food properly, vitamins in food etc...

Hey
First baby I consider myself laid back about eating. If I can eat it with out feeling sick then I eat it. Only exceptions are liver and pate. What is all this talk about deli meats and Subway? I eat cold meat all the time well ham and turkey not salami. Is this not allowed in the us? P.s I'm not sleeping on my left either, I'm sleeping however I can actually sleep without needing to go to the toilet!

This is my third pregnancy and i have never restricted myself! Eat what I fancy really! Not stupidly and obviously no alcohol/smoking (which i don't do anyway)!!I have two v healthy children and hope to have a third ;) xxx

Like with everything I think you just have to use moderation and good judgement. I followed all the food "rules" with my first pregnancy. This time, I'm more relaxed. I eat deli meat once in a while, only if it's fresh. I have runny eggs occasionally. Haven't really had any soft cheese but if I wanted to, I probably would, assuming they were pasturized. I don't think there's a right or wrong. It depends on what you're comfortable with.

I have had salami in hot toasties (don't know if that's bad), have 2 milky coffees a day and have had ham in sandwiches from the deli - is that off the menu?!

Now worrying about the ham I ate from the sandwich counter at work.... NHS doesn't say to avoid it on its website, but definitely will not be having it again...

There's no restrictions on deli meat in the uk, so I'd not worry about it.
