Just wondering if anyone else is just making do and not really all that excited about their pram/pushchair?!

I did have a budget of about £300-£350, but have had to make some cutbacks due to OH lack of job situation atm  so I ended up with a much smaller budget and no choice but to buy on credit until I get some money togther from my HIP grant (which is taking ages, problems, long story).

So I have got this pushchair travel system from Argos in the sale for £90, which includes car seat. I was so looking forward to getting my previous choice of pram, I liked the Sola and the Cybex designs from M&P but they were not meant to be.
I know it's daft getting upset and knarked off about a pram, but I'm the one who's got to push the damn thing around every day and a lot of people I know are having babies atm and they all seem to have nice ones.

All I seem to have been able to do this pregnancy is buy things cheap or second-hand from baby sales, therefore not much choice in what designs or colours I end up with. IAm having to rely on family for money or help with buying stuff. I've have got some lovely items, but yesterday I got really upset with OH and cried saying I wanted to go 'proper' baby shopping!:haha: I was a hormonal wreck! He must have sensed I was NOT happy at all and to get me smiling again we managed to scrape together some pennies, hopped on the bus into town and bought a brand new baby teddy for £2.99 from H&M and a couple of cute baby boy sleepsuits! :happydance:

Don't know what to do about this pushchair though, guess I'll have to grin and use it! Cheap and practical, that's me atm!
Anyone else feel a bit disappointed about stuff or not fussed on their choice of items?

To be honest I'm not 100% sold on mine. I bought the cosatto mobi/budi second hand for £75. It comes with carry cot, car seat, bag bla bla bla everything you could possibly need in a pram but I did have my heart set on an oyster. We could have afforded it if we saved within an inch of our lives but I felt bad about hubby going without his odd treat here and there as he works so hard and he is the only earner. The oyster would have cost us around £350 all in for everything we wanted so we have saved a heck of alot.

I might love the pram when I start using it but at the moment I am seriously tempted to sell the mobi and try to find a second hand oyster on ebay. I think hubby would kill me though as I had already bought an M+P's pram and decided I didn't want that either

Please dont be worrying!

As long as your baby is safe in its pram/carseat - that is the most important thing!

I got a budget travel system and love it!!! When I am out I see loads of folk with expensive Quinny, Bugaboo, ICandy and am glad mine is different.

I also know friends who have after a few months regretted spending £500 on their travel system!

Sometimes when a baby comes thats when you need to be cheap and practical.

Another friend of mine spent a fortune on designer/expensive baby clothes which hardly got worn. I had Anna in sleepsuits til she was almost 12wks then she went into 3-6 months proper clothes so there is no need to buy clothes for baby apart from some babygros/vests to start.

When the time comes and you have your baby and are out walking with baby in the pram you wont care what pram it is - you will just be so happy and in love with your baby and thats all that matters:flower:

We went with a second-hand Pliko, and up until right now I've loved it.
But the more I think about it the more I worry that its not what I want or that its not comfy enough etc
But then again it was either that, or let my nan buy me a pram.... and I was not about to let an old woman spend a months pension on a pram - I'd rather go second hand and spend my own money than start letting people get anything over me lol

I know you're right, ellie27!

I never was one for all the Quinny and Bugaboo designs, they wouldn't have fitted through my front door for a start!
It must be the hormones and the fact that OH has been out of work for a while now, it's getting us a bit down in the dumps.

I will have to make do with this travel system at least while ever the baby fits the size 0 car seat and then I might sell the whole thing and get a Maclaren-type as I had one of them before when my other two were toddlers and the pushchair folds up so easily compared to the one I've got now.
It's just a bit frustrating as we chose to have another child based on our ages, childs ages and financial situation and were looking forward to being able to get some nice co-ordinating bits and pieces. I guess you can never rely on the job situation these days!

We've bought a britax b-smart3, it looked really good at the baby show and we had a demo of it.

I havent seen ANY around since or heard anyone say they have bought one, so I was starting to wonder if we made the right decision (although havent said anything to hubby as it cost us £330). it all clips together easily etc but I'm now concerned about folding it down to put it away, I need to have a play with it some more but I think you have to take the seat part off to fold the frame down which means I can't fold it up out of the way when out for coffee and putting it in the car isnt going to be a quick flip and its flat like some i've seen.

overall I do still really like it though and I think all the niggly worries will go once LO is here cos I just wont care I'll be too busy oogling him :)

i'm right there with you!!!

as i'm on my own, paying my pregnancy related medical bills all on my own in cash and FOB now also threatening to breach his part of the lease and leaving me alone with paying the whole rent, i really don't have a cent to spare to spend on baby stuff, as i also gotta look towards if i'll be getting bigger and end up needing maternity clothes, which so far, i haven't except for a work pants.

so i depend on people to get me things and luckily FOB's sister in law was so nice to buy me the travel system which is the alano flip it from Graco and has good reviews. i just received it and assembled it and although i'm happy to have one, i'm also a little frustrated, that i just couldn't get what i really wanted, something with nice, funky colors or design, but instead have the all just fit-for-purpose greyish/greenish thing. :-/

i really don't want to sound greedy as i'm not, but i've been working so hard for the past 6 months, 5-6 days a week, overtime to get a little extra money, despite feeling sick and what not, making good money but due to the stupid prick of FOB i'm in the situation i'm in and it hurts to not be able to just go and buy the cute little outfit for $25.- i saw the other day or really just go shopping, getting bits and pieces that only i want for her. no, instead i'm being left alone with all the bills and obviously her & mine medical care and food on the table are far more important than the material things i'd love for her to have.

it will just have to do! and i know when she gets here it won't matter at all anymore :)

The one we got was on my short list but wasn't actually the winner - however we found it 1/2 price and really counld justify paying double the price for the other one. I do love it, it's heavier than some and bulky, but I know Boo will be safe and warm and thats what matters.

Most of her other stuff has been 2nd hand, ok, some of the patterns aren't what I'd have chose if paying full price, but when were getting such a great deal I really cannot complain (much )

Take her bouncer for example, 2nd hand, $50 .... Not my ideal colour but half the cost of new.

Yes I hear you sister! At first MIL told us that she was going to buy the pram for us, so we got really excited and started looking a pram systems that we REALLY wanted instead of looking at the price...but after a while she didnt mention it again so we realised that we were going to have to pay for it ourselves :(
Anyway we found a nice secondhand Pilko Pramette with carseat for £200 in good condition but when we got it home and looked it over I started to feel disappointed with it and so we sold it to MIL so she can have it at her house to take baby out.
Then we found a shop who let us pay in installments, so we almost bought the new iCandy Apple pram with 4 wheels which was stunning but after some discussion we decided that £800 for the system was just waaaay over our budget...

Anyway in the end a friend I knew was selling her pram - it was an iCandy Apple jogger with 3 wheels...it also came with a carseat and only cost £180! Its in really good condition and so is the carseat...but the only problem is that the front wheel of the pram is rubbish, it gets stuck and you have to drive the pram in a certain way so it doesnt stick like a supermarket trolley wheel!! What to do!!!!!!

I'm using my sons old travel system. It's in perfect condition so we can't justify buying another one but i am a bit gutted that i don't get a new one

i'm single nd fob doesnt help at all!!
luckily my mum offered to buy me a pram... whereas i like the pram nd i'm eternally grateful to her... i do find myself eyeing up other peoples prams nd wishin i had that one instead :(
xx

Try buying a nicer one second hand?

We have a Bugaboo Cameleon and it really is fab. I think they do them second hand on Ebay for a good price! x

seriously love your new piccy!!!!

in my dream world i'd have an old fashioned silvercross, but the modern world and ars make that in practical, so i have a silvercross 3d system that leaves me old but is practical.

thats what i've got :)
nd funnily enough my mum had one of the oldy styley silver cross prams for me when i was little xx

I havent seen our pram yet - I found it on the internet and ordered it over the phone and its waiting for us to pay the balance and get it sent to us so I hope I like it when it gets here! (Its a Silver Cross freeway linear and had £100 off)

Your travel system sounds like a total bargain :) (I LOVE a bargain!!!) and ultimately your LO wont know whether he has a fancy pram etc or not as long as he is cosy, loved and safe. Its also totally sensible what you are doing - ie not going into massive debt to buy expensive things that might not get used that much.

I wouldnt have minded having 2nd hand clothes etc at all but unfortunately OH and I dont know anyone who has recently had a baby and our little one is the first grandchild in both our families so everything is new but if we have another baby in the future then I will re-use as much as possible (apart from all the pink stuff if we have a boy!!!! :) )

Absolutely gorgeous picture!!!!! :flower:

I dont know what i'd do without the help of family, we would of rly struggled, we have some main items bought for us which is rly nice, and his mum is buying the pram but we were able to choose it, have you tried ebay using their trusted sellers, there are some great deals.

take a look at their half price sale £600 3 in 1 prams, colour of your choice, for £279 here is a linkTa https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-3-1-PRAM..._BabyTravel_Pushchairs_GL&hash=item3a5b72e651

I know how you feel, I had my heart set on a Quinny, or a My Choice pram from Mothercare, but I couldn't really afford it!

I've got a Luna Cress from Mamas and Papas which was a steal on sale for £90. I don't think it's going to be very comfortable for a new born, but it's a good strong pram, and cute...I shouldn't complain, but I do sometimes wish I could have got the pram I wanted!

I was really lucky in that my dad said i could choose whatever pram i wanted for my LO ... and he'd buy it for me :)

I knew that as long as it was safe and cozy, and would keep off as much of the chill as possible i didn't really mind what it was.

I fell in love with the Mothercare Trenton Deluxe in mocha, but i figured it was a bit on the expensive side at £259.99 to let my dad buy it for me so i was looking around to see if i could get it cheaper on ebay and anywhere else i could think of. Couldn't find it anywhere and i was gutted but when mothercare had its sale on my dad and i went up and they had the trenton deluxe instore so i had a play with it and i absolutely loved it! They only had it in black but thinking about it now, thats so much more practical hehe

The only thing im worrying about is the fact that the Trenton Deluxe is quite heavy, i was planning on driving most places with it so wouldnt have to worry about lifting it on and off the bus etc, but thats all changed now so i'm worrying. Its all paid for but i can still change it up to a week before its going to be delivered if i want to thanks to the mothercare plan thingy that they have, but i'm not sure yet, i love the travel system but its heavy .... think i might just have to grow some muscles to help me get it on and off the bus :haha:

Please take a look at link if you are on a budget :)

I wanted this one but changed mind and ended up with mamas and papas rubix. My reasoning behind wanting the below pram is its an all in one with car seat and carry cot, its very light weight with huge shopping basket. It really is an all rounder on a budget. Its only about £200.
