When I got my scan done yesterday they told me two things. 1) that the umbilical cord is missing an artery but the baby is in the 68% percentile for weight and I should eat a lot of protein and they will just monitor and everything should be fine. 2) there is a calcified spot in the heart which doesnt hurt the baby or cause medical problems but could be indicative of a chromosomal disorder but that since all my bloodwork came back negative and I am only 26 I shouldn't be concerned.
Did anyone have similar diagnoses? what did your dr. say

Hi, I dont know about the first point that you make but I do know a very small amount about the second point.

When my mum was pregnant with my sister there were these calcium pockets showing on my sisters heart. The doctors said the same - that it could be an indicator of a chromosomal problem. My mum was 43 at the time, so already a higher risk pregnancy.

Anyhow, they just disappeared and my sister is now 13 and no health issues whatsoever. The doctors told my mum that these calcium spots can appear and disappear quickly and that had she have had her scan maybe just a few days later there was a chance they would have disappeared by then.

That was a while ago now, so things may have changed but thought I'd let you know a good news story about,

Sorry I cant help on the other part but hopefully someone on here can.

That makes me feel a lot better :)

With my last pregnancy I had the calcium spots in both chambers of the heart and I was told that it was a soft marker for downs...my triple screen was ok and there were no other markers indicative of a problem but because of the spots in the heart my risk was reassessed and it came back as 1:350 for downs and it was previously 1:1600 it increased significantly and although my midwife told me it was likely just the calcium deposits i did think about it every day until LO was born.

I am sure its fine it happens all the time.

And you baby is just fine right? My dr didn't get into any numbers. she just said bloods show you are negative (I don't even know what blood tests I took but I took 3 since I conceived). Are the blood tests accurate?

I had placenta problems with ds1 - it wasn't identified till after he was born by emergency section. He was 4 llb full term and I was told it was part due to a 'calcified' placenta causing IUGR- I have no idea if there was one or two arterys as I say they didn't pick anything up till it got to emergency stations.

I think with all these things if they pick them up early they can monitor it and make sure that it doesn't cause problem in the end.

My DD was a missed diagnosis of IUGR. She was measuring a few days small at her u/s but they didn't notice the cord abnormality. I was eating a high protein diet through my cravings. My Dr was shocked at birth when my DD was only 5 lbs 5 oz and looking at the cord he immediately diagnosed her with IUGR. It is altogether possible she stopped growing in utero a week or two before delivery, however was very healthy and scored a 9 on the apgar. She is almost 5 and although she is one of the shortest kids in her class she is bright and energetic and altogether perfect, most of the time. ;)
