Well basically dealing with my pregnancy alone, I have had a lot of time to think, and lately I have been thinking about the importance of seeing a doctor during pregnancy. The only doctor I have seen is the one who confirmed that I am pregnant, since then I've been trying to figure things out on my own, which is dreadfully confusing. I have heard conflicting things about prenatal medical care, and doctors make a habit of treating me like and idiot and pissing me off, so I avoid them like the plague.
I'm also scared to find out that there could be something wrong with my baby, because I know that I have a predisposition to difficulties. I am a bit of a fighter, and have had a lot of abdominal injuries. The last one put me in the hospital, and that was when a doctor told me that if I ever did get pregnant that I have a high chance of having complications, and possibly wouldn't make it to full term.

So my question is: is it really important for me to be seeing a doctor regularly, or will I be ok on my own?

Every pregnant women should go to the doctors IMO .. Very important. Although Some doctors suck and can be so negative I feel it's a very important thing to make sure your baby is healthy and especially if you're prone to complications and were told those things by a doctor before, you could be putting yourself and your baby at serious risk.

I think that is a decision only you can take. I personally am having a lot of input from my drs due to my history and I find it reassuring, and also value the discovery of serious problems at the earliest stage so I can make decisions.

Good luck and I hope you have a great pregnancy xxx

I agree, especially as you've been told you might have complications you need to see a doctor (or midwife). Yes, they might piss you off. But what's that compared to the health of your baby and your own? There may not be much they can do in first trimester but later on they have lots of ways to help you out if something was to go wrong. If they have a chance to catch it that is. How would you feel if something happened to your baby and you later found out doctors could have prevented it? You are also putting yourself at a considerable risk but not having medical attention. I hope you decide to see someone. But just in case you don't: remember it's important to take folic acid and avoid alcohol and cigarettes, as well as certain foods. Good luck with your pregnancy!

I think it's very important to see a doctor or a mw, there are many things that you will need to be monitored for throughout your pregnancy and from what you said it seems you may be high risk so even more reason to keep in the system. x

If you yourself have a history of complications due to injuries you have sustained then it might be best to see a doctor. Its your decision of course but you need to think of your little one and whats best for him/her and put your own personal feelings about doctors to one side. You can change doctor if needs be but you cant change the outcome if you gamble with the health of your unborn child by missing pre natal care. I hope it works out whatever you do in the end x
