Is it safe to take ginger pills for morning sickness?

I have had horrible morning sickness and I'm desperate for some relief. My husband bought me some Ginger Root pills from Whole Foods last night, but I'm a bit afraid to take them. Is it safe?? Are there any known harmful side effects for the baby?

I have taken them a lot during my first three pregnancies and all babies were born healthy. I'd say it's safe.
