If a doctor gives you a negative dx....and you arent sure of it. Is it worth it to get a 3d or 4d scan? Will those machines give a better look at what is going on in the uterus? I would have to travel to another state (really only about a 2 or 3 hour drive and would book a hotel) but if it could give a clearer picture it would be worth the money. What do you ladies think?

It depends how far along you are, anything before 10 weeks and your best with a trams vaginal scan, not all private places do them either! I was almost 6 weeks and nothing at all showed up on a normal 3d/4d scan x

Heyluu... I have been keeping up with your story and praying very hard for you and your little bean! I dont have experience but I do know that I would definitely get a second opinion. I would want to be 100000% sure the dr was right and I think anything that will make you feel better or even just more comfortable is worth it.

Your best bet is another 2D scan. I had a private scan at 8weeks and they were testing out their equipment so playing around with 2D and 3D settings and couldn't recognise a thing on the 3D because they're not optimised for structures that small. I would get a second opinion from another doctor, not a private place. Different doctors will have different ultrasound scanners and some are better than others. Best of luck! :hugs:

Thank you ladies and especially thank you for the prayers. It means so much! The funny thing is, Ive only been scanned in the ER...never in my doctor's office. I asked him if his equipment was any different than the ones in the hospital and he said no, they were essentially the same. He knows I want to re-scan at 8 weeks to be sure. I may even hold out a week longer. I have read many stories online where women did not find heartbeats until 9-10 weeks just before a d and c! Also, the "structure" they say they see could have been a subchorionic hematoma (sp). If that is the case, if I give it some time, the clot could resolve itself and baby can have time to grow a bit more. There is a part of me that also wonders if what they saw was a vanishing twin? My levels were pretty high and that would account for that. They never even mentioned that possibility though.

Could you get your doctor to rescan you now and repeat if necessary? His equipment is "essentially" the same but might be newer or better resolution or his eye might be better at interpreting what he sees. Worth a shot in my book. You could probably pay privately if your insurance doesn't cover it?

I think I am just too scared to go in and do it again before I hit 8 weeks. I just want to wait a little and give things a chance to grow/change. I have been considering paying out of pocket someone who is unbiased and knows nothing about my situation so that I can get a fresh prospective. It would be great to go to someone who knew nothing about my current dx, have them scan and find a healthy pregnancy and take those results in to my doc! I just dont know where to go. I know about 3d and 4d scan places, but at my gestational stage might be too early for that.

How far along are you now? Could you to a different obgyn or would they request your records/cancel your registration with your existing doc? Could you pay another obgyn privately? 3d/4d places will also have the equipment to do 2d (3d is just a software bolt-on). Could you phone and see if they do early scans? I agree with having someone "naive" to the situation but I'd try to find someone with experience of early scans. Could you maybe even go to a different ER?

3d and 4d at this point are more a novelty for pregnancy scanning and arent diagnostic of anything. in addition the pay places are NOT doctors and can give you no medical information etc, they just try to get pretty face pictures

I guess I just need to look in the phone book. I've never been in this situation so I have no clue. I'm pretty limited on who will see me for my pregnancy as I am a vbac patient and many in my area will not accept my insurance or the fact that I am a vbac patient.
