My five month old (about 3.5 adjusted) has the following symptoms:

spitting up more
drooling
sucking on fingers
turning away from boob and bottle
crying in pain

I'm really at a loss cuz this all started in the last few days. He's still eating a fair amount just with difficulty. He's also super smiley but will randomly start crying his hurt cry every once in a while. I've tried Tylenol and Advil and they seem to help a little but not a ton. Is it teething? Do you have any advice?

I would say so with the sucking on fingers, drooling and crying in pain. My 16w began teething last week she's had the same thing going on. Tries gnawing on her fists. Responds to Tylenol though.

It helps to give mine a cold bottle. She seems soothed by the cold milk. She doesn't respond well to teethers, even if they're straight from the fridge.

Absolutely. Even if a tooth doesn't pop through straight away, or it stops and starts, sounds like classic teething to me. And my girl has sixteen of them, so I've seen a lot!

Any movement in the gums can cause them considerable distress, especially with the first tooth. Jumping and then crying, with a hand straight in the mouth is something we saw a lot of with LO's first tooth. Took about three months to finally cut though!

Nothing much helps my LO for any significant period of time, though some people like to make ice lollies out of LO's usual milk if they are struggling with it being warm or with mouth pain when nursing or taking a bottle. Other people swear by chilling or partially freezing a damp cloth for the baby to chew on. Mine definitely likes to chew when teething so anything safe and age appropriate might help. Other than that, just be there for him when it hurts, as I'm sure you will be, and wait it out together. It'll pass. :)

Thanks for the advice ladies! I think it will get a lot better once he's fully mastered getting things into his mouth. Teething rings and cold cloths would be great if he could hold them!

I'll keep trying but he's still sleeping pretty decently I just feel bad for him when I know it's hurting. Especially when eating. Hopefully it doesn't take 3 months for us!
