Is transverse the same as breech?

Hello ladies, my baby is now transverse does this mean the same as breech and lead to a section if he doesnt turn later on? X

Transverse means the baby is lying across your stomach rather than head down (ceph) or bum/feet down (breech)
You still have plenty of time for baby to move into position though

Hello, my baby is also transverse and like Tadan said its where the baby is lying across your belly. My midwife told me that if she is still in transverse next week (when Im 36 weeks) I will be sent for a scan and if they cannot get her to turn then I will need a c section. Might be different for you though as you are not quite as far gone as me. x

My baby was transverse until 36 weeks, now I'm 37+2 and she's head down and fully engaged. There's plenty of time for baby to turn. Apparantly only 2% of babies are still transverse when labour starts. Hope baby turns for you!

Thats what happened to me too with my ds. This baby was also lying transverse and is now head down. x

Yes transverse lie is very unusual. Though it's an option to start labour and see if baby turns if the shoulder engages it can be lethal for the baby so transverse lie pretty much means a section unlike breech with CAN be delivered vaginally.

As the others have said lie at 31 weeks means nothing. Both mine have been transverse at my 31 week appointment then turned cephalic by the 34 week problem. There is usually a reason behind tranverse lie, like super-separated abdominal muscles or some physical shape to the womb preventing the baby from turning. Anyway it's 36 weeks for a first baby before anyone will worry.

Anna was breech all through my pregnancy.

As said before, baby can turn at anytime and it will be at 36wks they will discuss the options.

You will be offered an ECV to try turn the baby round rather that just having to have a section

My baby is transverse also and on 29 week 4D scan head was by left ribs, bum down right side and feet dancing nicely on my bladder and my Minnie! Even tho it is lying sideways, sometimes midwives have still referred to baby as being breach which I guess may be becoz it's not lying in the ideal position. As the others say, still plenty of time to turn. I keep thinking mine has when get periods of heaviness low down but then when I do a quick scan, it's still transverse! Naughty baby! X
