Ok, so last nite I was awoken, as normal about 5/6 times to pee & to take a Gaviscon top up!

But something else was happening, I was itching, my arms, legs & between breasts

It wasnt really bad, but enough to make me think 'hmmm, not had this before & have I used any different body cream etc'

Its still there today & am finding my cardigan (which is cosy & ive had it ages) irritating me....

I have googled itching & obviously cholestasis has come up...I have midwife on Weds, but think im gonna give her a call now, cant hurt

Anyone any views?

Have now rang & left a message for a midwife to call me

Glad you've rang. I had cholestasis with Emma and I've got it mildly again this time so I know how awful itching can be. Let us know how you get on! x

Yeah think you've done the right thing hun. Always better to be on the safe side. Keep us posted x

I have problems with itching at night, think its just the heat!

I've been getting this really badly, especially on my legs. I mentioned it to midwife on Friday and she's done a blood test for cholestasis to be on the safe side...but we're both expecting it to just be circulation-related madness.

It's probably nothing, but one of those things that's worth getting checked just on the off chance that it is.

Good luck, hope you find something to ease it (and if you do find something that works...please share!) xx

Kelly im glad you called her

Ive had it on my back in 1 spot for weeks and get it under my arms if I get hot and occasionally on my lower legs but moisturising usually helps me - I mentioned it to the consultant last week as it had been annoying me under my arms so she checked me out but since there was no rash and I didnt have it on my palms or feet she just said to keep an eye on it and call the mw if it persisted.

I dont know how much Louise had before she got tested though.

I ge the itching really bad, but both dr and midwife dont think its OC so refuse to do a blood test. It probably isnt but would it hurt to jus do a quick test. I have now been given hydrocortisone cream which dr thinks will help. I hope so as itching is driving me mad.

Hope you get it sorted hunni x

I have beeen itching bump like mad for 2 weeks now, So bad im nearly bleeding and covered in lumps and a small rash aswell, I mentioned it to the doctor and she said "ohhh that just ur skin stretching, no medicine can fix that" so whats all this about blood tests etc.. I was lead to believe its completely normal...

Orangejuice - take a look at the pinned thread at the top of the board - Obstretic Cholestrasis (sp?) its a liver issue -potenitally - have you spoken to your midwife about it?

Mizze x

I think if its just itching on your tummy...It could well be the skin stretching, I had that belly itching earlier on in pregnancy....But lashings of cocoa butter helped

But always better to mention it to the midwife :winkwink:

Well, my midwife didnt call back! :dohh:

But just took DS2 to the doctors for something & thought id mention it, the doctor was really lovely & checked babys heartbeat, had a feel, checked my urine....All was fine

So, she has sent me for a blood test, tommorow, results will be back by Wednesday

Thanks, it is just bump buh its sooo bad, cocoa butter doesnt help, I was planning to get some non-perfume based cream, like e45 or something to see if that helps, buh will mention it to midwife later.

Glad u posted this thread, so many things that u just dont think about ey.. x

Can I just urge anyone who has persistant and bad itching to PLEASE DEMAND a blood test from your MW/Dr. My itching kept me awake at night and really was unbearable, BUT, this time around it isn't as bad (although my bloods are only borderline for it), but I'm still being induced at 39 weeks.

Having had OC (Obstetric Cholestasis) with my first pregnancy and being induced at 37 weeks because of it - I know how dangerous this condition can be if left untreated.

There is no reason to refuse a blood test - the bile acid test is the specific one for OC but a simple LFT (liver function test) will show raised levels and then a bile acid one could be sent off for. There's really no excuse for refusing it!

My midwife said any itching will be calmed by bicarb in a bath, it makes your skin ph go back to normal.....i would try that :hugs:
