Hello

I had a terrible bout of D&V which I now know was Norovirus - the winter vomiting disease. Hubby cared for our baby yesterday, she's 5 months, but he's back to work today. Would it be ok for me to look after her?? Obviously I know the most important thing is hygiene, I am always using the hand gel and washing my hands and I know not to kiss her and breathe all over her. D&V has gone thankfully.

Can she catch this??

Thanks in advance.

I think you are still contagious up to 48 hours after the last bout of D or V. At my daughters school the rules are that they arent allowed back before 48 hours. xx

Norovirus is airbound, my whole house had it when lo was 2 weeks old. It passed quickly and he was fine, I didn't give him any extra fluids and he still pit on weight that week.

Norovirus is notoriously hard to kill, in fact, antibac hand gels do nothing as norovirus is a virus and isn't killed so to say by alcohol - you have to kill it by using a 10% bleach solution and wipe down all surfaces.

I've become a mini expert on norovirus, both my husband and I had it about a month ago, but strangely enough, my son never got it - just make sure if you do have to care for your child that you wash your hands constantly and do a deep clean of your house.

As Mummy2Asher said, it's airbound when you have D&V, and as far as I have heard, can actually live on surfaces for 2 weeks. It is also (as far as I know) still present in faeces for 2 weeks after symptoms have gone (so clean your toilet often)

Hope you feel better, we were miserable when we got it. xx

me and oh had it a few months ago but amelie was fine. Its not really practical for us to not be able to look after her  I suppose if you have someone who can take her for you then thats good but if not, i wouldnt worry.

+ Just use soap and water for norovirus. We don't use alcohol gel even in the hosp when we have a bout of D+V.Its a big infection control no, no. Just wash your hands, bleach the toilet everytime you go or are sick and when you feel better give your bathrooms a good deep clean.

We both had it but LO was fine. We just made sure we washed our hands properly and scrubbed the bathroom regularly. We moved his toothbrush into the nursery just in case it got airborne and onto his brush.

As a single parent I didn't have a choice to not look after her when I had the norovirus and also afterwards. She was ok though and was sick once. I on the other hand got it really bad, it really is horrible! I would just make sure you scrub the bathroom and just keep good hygiene
