Hi all,

Im quite new to all this, so wondering if anyone can help put my mind at ease.

I have been referred by my gyne to IVF and ICSI Units. I've filled in all the IVF Forms, and have an appointment on Tuesday with the IVF Unit to have a scan, SA sample, and go over the procedure etc. What will happen at this appointment? I was told when I filled all the forms in that there was a year waiting list, but howcome I am being seen now only 8 weeks later??? Will they just go through everything with us, and then put us on the list? or is this our first appointment after being on the list and was the list much shorter than the specialist mentioned???

What do you think I can expect from this first appointment, is there anything you think is important to ask?

I also have a referral appointment with the ICSI Unit in July, to meet and discuss the procedures etc Is there anything you think I should be asking or any information I should get from this appointment also.

Im sorry for the long post, and if I sound daft. But I am feeling a little overwhelmed and unsure of what will happen.

Well done in getting referred hun, i am still awaiting to see someone from our F.S.. Our PCT isnt funding and havent been since August last year I think we have a very long wait..

I am sure they just do the normal tests again what gyno did, like the SA test, cd2 tests internal scans etc.. There prob then go over what sort of IVF you need i.e for ICIS or IVF and then if its a year wait your prob get a letter to say when your time is here..

Good luck x

Hi Beauty!

Thanks for replying. So sorry that your having problems with the nhs messing you about because of funding.

Haven't been on here in a while, how are you?

Havent been on myself to be honest, not finding it much help when your in between treatments and waiting on funding issues..

Im ok thanks how are you? xx

Ahhh you don't sound daft at all, you sound like me when we got our referral :hugs:

It sounds very good as your PCT obviously doesn't have a waiting list - mine is 12 months (but is currently only a 3 month wait) and my friend had no real wait at all so its very speedy.

Most FS appointments actually manage to cover everything you wanted to know plus a lot more. You want to know what protocol you will be long, how long is the duration - is it IVF or ICSI (does your DH have low sperm count??). If on the day of EC your hubby has good sperm - will they go for ICSI or will they do standard IVF? How many will they let you put back and what freezing options do you have - i.e. if you have lots of embies will they freeze them and how much does it cost? Also does it cost to have a frozen transfer or is this covered under the NHS?

Probably all sounds very overwhelming but how awesome that there is a very real chance of a :bfp: for you before the year is out! :wohoo:

Hi Both,

Thanks for your replies, It does help having someone to talk to about what's going on.

Well thought I would update you, today went well. DH had to do another sample, and that came back normal. I had a scan which the nurse thought looked perfectly fine, but the consultant thinks I may have mild pco (but again they can't be sure - lol) From my scan it looks as though I ovulated - so It may be that the clomid has cick started my cycles again, but I think Im gonna wait and see on that one.

They were lovely there and made me feel really relaxed. I go back in october for blood tests and in November for my final consultation where they will line up my cycle with treatment etc and then in January if I haven't had a BFP, then I start IVF!

The consultant said that there was a compulsory 1 year wait from time of referral, and seeing as my referral was done in January, I only have another 6 months to wait until procedure starts. I didn't send my forms back until at least April this year, so I am chuffed that they have gone from the time the gyne referred me, and not from when the forms came in

Really scarry, but I feel so much better after the appointment. I also found out that I get 2 go's on the IVF with my NHS Trust - So chuffed with that too!!

I do have an appointment next month though for ICSI, which should have a shorter waiting list also, so all in all feeling much more positive today.

Sorry for the long post, but thanks for listening!

xx
