We got our option for IVF on Thursday, we're pretty sure we're gona go for it O:)

My question is . . . we have an appointment to tell the doctor what we have decided (not sure when yet, we're waiting for the letter).
When we go and tell him. . . say end of the month what are the next steps and when should we be expecting to actually be undergoing the precedure. . . ?

I asked the doctor in his office and he said three months, I'm not sure if he thought I meant when will the ACTUAL IVF happen or if he thought I meant when will be getting going after the decision O:)

Hope this makes sense? O:)

I don't understand what you mean by you've got your option for IVF on Thursday, is that your FS appointment? If so, who is the other doctor?

Depending on your clinic's protocols and the protocol you are put on will determine when the actual egg collection and IVF will take place. My clinic puts patients on the pill for 3 weeks, then there is the down regulation which can take up to 3 weeks, then about 2 weeks of stimulation. Other clinics start down regging on CD21 for a couple of weeks, then the 10 days to two weeks of stims. My protocol is 3 weeks of the pill 2 days of down-reg meds and 10-14 days of stims - this is the short protocol - which is mainly used on older ladies or those with diminished ovarian reserve.

If you are going private, I expect you can start on your next CD1.

We got told by the FS on Thursday we have three options, do nothing, go on tamoxifen or go for IVF.

He said go away decide and then book an appointment to come back and see me.

I'm wondering from when we do go back to see him, how long will it take to do the 'actual' procedure, is he going to start the process right then or will there be a waiting list?

Hope that's clearer O:)

It depends a lot on ur area and the clinic you are using. When we told out fertility doctor we wanted IVF she said the clinic we wanted had a 6 month wait. Another clinic had no waiting list whatsoever. We decided on that. That date was 2nd January. We heard from the clinic 2 weeks later and had our 1st app there on 28th January. I started my first day of IVF drugs around mid march and had egg collection 19th April transfer 24th, BFP 6th May.

It could have been a month earlier or later, it all depends how many couples they have doing a cycle at any one time. I wanted to start asap but had to wait 3 weeks for a scan appointment for example, so it pushed it back a month. Plus we had scans, bloods, other appointments too before we could start so ur looking at a few weeks possibly longer to start between the time you first have your appointment at the clinic and actually starting the procedure. Everywhere works differently though, this was just my experience with Oxford. I was like u, eager to start always wanting to know a time scale so I hope this has been helpful!

Thanks hun, yeah that's a fab answer
