Joe vs Rage

Rage supporters need to download by Saturday to get the Christmas no.1!

i actually think it is such a shmae for poor Joe, who has done nothing wrong - the thing here is obviously aimed at Simon Cowell, but Joe is the one who will suffer

he's still gonna be loaded though!

Im pretty sure that he'll only get x amount of each single thats sold, thats the way it usually works anyway, its like 2% of the amount of each single sold or something depending on his contract.

Anyway Rage are signed by Sony so its all going to go in some big shots pocket either way, Id rather stay out of silly games and save my 79p for a giant mars bar or something. Dont really care about the charts these days anyway.

I do feel sorry for Joe though, he's done nothing wrong bless him

x

I couldnt care less, i couldnt tell you who has been Number 1 at christmas since i was about 15

I dont really listen to much chart music, or even the radio at all really

Ahhh...what happened to the days we bought CDs!

Just doesnt seem fair, the download chart.....

Tom Morello (guitarist for RATM) has said he is going to donate a lot of the proceeds to a UK charity that helps kids learn a musical instrument! I think its great!

Not the proceeds that go directly to Sony, though, only what he gets which will be a very small percentage x

I thought about this earlier.. and I think Simon Cowell could potentially make MORE money from this.

Think about it, those who don't like X Factor at No1 wouldn't have bought the X Factor single regardless of this going on. The ones who like it will.. And in the same way that lots of people are buying multiple copies of RATM, X Factor supporters will potentially buy MORE copies of the X Factor single to keep up with the No1 competition. True, it might stop him getting to No1, but he could be making extra money off the back of it.

It wouldn't surprise me if Simon Cowell actually owned the right to the RATM song and had set this all up to make himself a pretty penny... :)

It doesn't actually matter either way. Joe is signed to Sony, Rage are signed to Sony. It's all a huge con for Sony to get money either way.
Kinda pointless too, i don't think there's any way Rage will wil win. Rage only have internet downloads, Joe has that AND the cd to buy.
I'm a huge metal/punk fan, but i really don't like Rage. I like Joes song more than theirs

You can still buy the single on CD if you want to. Anyway the point isn't a fight against Sony, it's a fight against packaged artists and music, against the complete crap that comes out the X-factor year on year and the guarantee that it will be another predictable boring No.1.

On some comments on the Guardian article I found this post
Twas the week before Christmas and all through the land
Music was fighting, band against bland,
For that coveted place at the top of the charts
But the truth of the matter was most had lost heart.

For it seemed now that music meant money and fame
Not writing new songs but just getting your name
Into Heat magazine and becoming a star
Based on being on TV; it had all gone too far

What had once been a joke, what had once passed the time
Now ruled the world and it must be a crime
For the X-Factor grinch to control Number One
It was cruel, it was tragic. But what could be done?

Music meant more ? we knew this was wrong.
It meant changing the world. It meant writing a song.
But now it meant voting and phone-ins and tears
And Cowell ruining Christmas for all who had ears.

But someone decided it wasn?t too late
There were still those who cared about true music's fate
So they gathered an army who wanted much more
Than an X-Factor Christmas. This time it was war.

Their plan was quite simple and really quite sound:
To achieve something concrete with one English pound.
With one unified gesture of buying one track
Music, united, would take Christmas back

They would each buy a copy of a song loved of age
A song that had meaning, and swearing, and rage
A song to remind us why music won?t die
A slow euthanasia under Cowell's watchful eye.

The saviours of Christmas and music took heart
And pledged, in some small way, to each play their part
In dismantling an empire of vacuous gain
Where promotion of talentless wankers held reign.

Ignore the X-Factor and it might go away
In the meantime, buy music, 'cause it's here to stay.
So go out and buy Rage and we might win this fight
Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

Don't like either but am sick of X factor being number one... the song is RUBBISH!

Why should Joe be guarenteed a number 1, other artists have to work hard at it...so why shouldn't it be the same for him?

Its not just Joe is it, the whole music industry is like that.

Why should a song that was released 17 years ago go to number one? why not an independant band who arent even signed? I like RATM but I dont agree with just going out and buying it in an attempt to prove a point...

x

Not from me - had Olly have won i'd have bought it but now its Joe RATM all the way :D

x factor annoys the HELL out of me. Plus I love the rage song, so yes come on rage!! I doubt rage will be No.1 though, x factor is so comercialised :( It would be nice to re-release real christmasy tunes :)

I want joe to get it not because it gets simon cowel money as you put it, but because that boy has worked his ass off to acheive his dream and i think he deserves number one because hes brilliant. its more christmassy than that other song u all like.

the bottom line for me is I'd rather buy a song by a fantastic band who actually write their own music and lyrics and have a message to get across, than some manufactured ken-doll who just does what he's told and nobody will remember in 5 years until he ends up on celebrity big brother or im a "celebrity"!

Im getting fed up with Xfactor getting a guaranteed number 1 every Xmas. Imo it makes a mockery of the whole chart, so i voted for rage.
Plus i cant stand the xfactor song and not keen on Joe either x
