yesterday I noticed short sharp pains on the right hand side of my stomach..i asked my OH's sister about them as shes just had a baby..she said it was the baby kicking..i took that as the answer, but later I got them on both sides..so unless im having a ninja baby in football boots, I dont think it can be that..ive had it again today..anyone else had that? Or know what it is?

Brief, sharp pains on the side of the bump sound like round ligament pain to me, not kicks. When you first start to feel kicks they will be gentle and bubble-like, or fluttery, not sharp and painful. I am 29 weeks and they are just now getting "sharper" feeling.

Round Ligaments are just the ligaments holding your uterus in place, as it grows, it gets larger and sometimes it stretches the ligaments and it is a sharp type pain on the side of the bump when you move. I got them mostly when sneezing or getting up from sitting too fast.

Yeah, I get pains then too, but they seem a little longer than these ones im having now :/

Round ligament pain is usually quite short, so it would be more normal that they would be shorter rather than longer! I don't ever get it anymore really. I think it can vary from a really short pain to a little bit longer pain, but round ligament pain should never be terribly long lasting. Kicks just don't seem like they could ever hurt, especially not at 18 weeks (I just felt flutters at all at 17.5 weeks!).

Yeah I get flutters..and the longer pains are not massively longer, just slightly longer than the other ones..did put the pains into google before I asked here and it suggested ligament pain there too..

Sounds like RLP pain. I've never had kicks that are "painful"; I can feel them, but they don't hurt at all.

I just posted a thread about pains too. I get those sharp pains to the side sometimes, as well as constant aches. I assumed it was ligament pain/uterus stretching, but I have no idea really :S

Could it be baby on a nerve? I dont know if it could be but I got a similair pain to what youve described the other week and somebody told me thats what it could be.
