Just had a 5 week 3 day scan, no yolk sac

Hi Ladies, I have just had an early scan at 5 weeks and 3 and while the gestational sac was there, there was no yolk sac. Shouldn't there be a yolk sac by now? The doctor said there shouldn't but... Did anyone else have a scan this early and not see a yolk sac? He's taking my hcg levels again. Please help

I had a ultrasound at 5 weeks 3 days and there was a yolk sac but nothing else. Your dates could be off by the tiniest bit and thats the real you aren't seeing anything yet. Its still super early, don't start panicking yet.

Every pregnancy and every baby develops different, doctors use this national average of what should happen this day, and this day and when it doesn't they send us into a panic. Like I said, still VERY early. You and baby are fine

My doctor refused to give me an u/s until 7 wks along because she said anything earlier and it may be too soon to see anything. And if that's the case, we'll all start freaking out over nothing so she'd rather wait until she's more certain we'll see what we need to.

It was probably just too early. The doc may be taking your levels again as a precaution.

i'm not sure why you went for a scan so early as it's way too soon to judge the viability of the pregnancy. it's recommended to wait until past the 6 week mark. your dates could be out and even by 2 or 3 days that makes a big difference in the beginning with what you can see. i suggest waiting 2 weeks and getting another scan as it makes a huge difference.

i had a scan at 5+5 and only sac the gestational sac, and nothing else. went back a week later and you could see the yolk sac but no fetal pole. another week after that, heartbeat! its normal =]

I just had an internal scan at either 4 weeks and 6 days or 5 weeks and all we saw was the gestational sac and I will quote what the doctor said "If I use my imagination, I can almost see a yolk sac starting to develop right about there". So yes, it is very possible that everything is fine. My next scan is next Monday to check for the heartbeat. Are you getting another scan?
