Hi ladies, I miscarried on 30th November last year after ttc for 2 years.

Every month before AF I have brown stringy spotting for 4 days. I'm not sure what causes this but I think it may be low progesterone. My fs dismissed this saying progesterone wouldn't cause spotting. I've read everywhere that it does though..

On the month I conceived I still had the spotting from 9pdo and it lasted until 14dpo. I miscarried the following week.

This cycle I have had extremely sore boobs and nipples which feels the same as when I was pregnant, I'm 10dpo today and starting to think I may be pregnant again. The only thing is I'm already spotting, so if am am pregnant I feel as though I'm going to miscarry again..

I feel like no-one can help me and the spotting just gets dismissed, but I feel like it's a major reason that I cannot conceive/had a mc.

Is there anything I can do myself, to prevent this spotting? x

Can you go to someone different??? I would suggest someone who actually listens to you because your concerns are totally valid. My sis had the same thing before AF (not just the normal 2-3 days spotting before but more like 7 days before). She got progesterone levels checked (and yes it can be related to spotting! I don't know why your FS is saying it's not)...they were fine. Apparently it can also be a symptom of Endo so you would need a Lap and Dye to determine if that was the cause. My sis was a week from getting one done and boom BFP...I hope you will get the same. I hope you get some help from someone more sympathetic because it is definitely something that could affect fertility and also make M/Cs more likely. :hugs:

hi there - i don't have the spotting issues you are describing, but i have had low progesterone levels in the past and for my last pregnancy (ended nov.30 2010 at 12 weeks due to anencephaly) i had been taking progesterone suppositories from the time i discovered i was pregnant until we learned the pregnancy wouldn't be carried to term. i would recommend that you request progesterone for the future. it won't do you harm, may prevent the spotting and may assist a future pregnancy. good luck.

Thanks for your reply grandbleu :hugs:

Regarding going to see someone else, I'm not sure I can as he's an NHS specialist. I think if I get pregnant again I will go to my GP instead and ask him to check my levels. When the fs checked my hcg levels every two days he still refused to check my progesterone at the same time, as 'it is not important!' even though I was spotting!

I actually had my progesterone levels checked by my GP at 6pdo the same cycle I conceived and they were totally normal, but my concern is that they may drop dramatically at 9dpo causing the spotting - I may be wrong though. But the not knowing is driving me insane.

I had a lap, dye and ovarian drilling in August, I have pcos but got the all clear for endo. I'm not sure if pcos could cause this spotting and that there is no real underlying cause?

So although your sister had spotting every month - her progesterone was ok? And she managed to conceive despite this? That has given me some hope, thank you :)

Hi sounder, thanks for your reply :hugs:

I really don't think my fs will give me progesterone :( He wouldn't even test for it, nevermind supplement it.

I did consider buying it online, but I feel that could be a risky thing to do, especially as I don't even know if that's the cause. x

Yep - she never found out the cause in the end but conceived and my little niece was born Dec. 8th completely healthy. I wish you the same success!

    That's such wonderful news :)

Can I ask, did she still spot on the month she conceived? x

Hmm...I'll have to ask her. It might take a couple days since we don't live near or in the same country so we don't talk everyday but I'll def. ask her.
