Hi all,

I'm having a problem with keeping DD2 warm. I need the heating on to keep her warm but I've found I wake up in the morning with a terrible headache.

Any ideas on how I can sort this without making DD2 cold?

Thanks all

I keep my heating on but i've been told I REALLY don't need to.. but i'm scared to wrap Laila up more and even if I turn the heating down abit she wakes up snuffly :( can't help, sorry x

That's my problem is I don't want to wrap her too much. She already has a vest, babygro and 2 blankets and still wakes up with a cold nose & hands if the heating isn't on.

Hands, nose and feet are normaly always cold, judge it by how the back of her neck feels.

Yes, I was told that cold hands and feet are normal and to go by the back of the neck, do you have a thermometer that tells you the temperature in the room? You can get them v cheap on ebay. Should be between 18 and 20 degrees.

i have never left the heating on overnight
Lana sleeps in a bag with just her longsleeved vest and sleepsuit
she has a proper nice growbag not the cheap tshirt material bags that go out of shape when you wash them, i think the growbag type are the best, you get similar in tkmax for a tenner as well
up until about 4/5 weeks i just put a sheet and 2 cellular blankets on her

very likely yes.
Hands and feet are normaly always cold because they are furthest from the heart, normaly nose and ears are a bit cold as well.
My LO always has cold feet and nose but the rest of him is toasty.
Dont judge by the temperature of of the chest area as this is closest to the heart so will be the last part to lose heat and can give you the impression that they are fine.
The back of the neck and the legs are the best places to judge if they are too hot or cold and if these feel fine then all is good.
A vest, babygrow and 2 blankets should be more then enough to keep her warm, mine only wears a vest indoors and wont keep his blanket on but our flat is naturaly hot we dont even use the heating.
If your unsure get a room thermometer it should only be about 18-20c then you will see that the room realy doesnt need to be heated most of the time unless you live somewhere realy cold or its a icey day.

Lola used to wear knitted cardigans in bed for the first couple of weeks.

I was advised to do that by MW because she had trouble keeping her body temp up. But yeah don't go off her hands or feet unless they actually look blue! Luckily I had loads of old ladies knitting for me when I was pregnant :D xx

Right I'm sure we had a thermometer in those bounty bags so will hunt that out and use it tonight cos I think I'm powering the pharmaceutical industry at the mo with the amount of paracetamol I'm going through.

Thanks for these everyone.

I would say you can turn it down. Earl is a warm boy but his hands and feet are always cold lol. Check the back of their neck or put your finger down the front of their vest. They should feel warm, but not hot or sweaty.

At the moment Earl goes to bed in pyjamas (trousers and long sleeved top), cotton sheet and folded over cellular blanket. I'm thinking I'm going to have to lose the sheet soon. There's also no heating on in his room at the moment - There is on the landing outside his room, but his thermometer says 18 degrees even at 4.30am!

We have the heating set to click on at 16 degrees, so it's not on all night but I don't have to worry about Joe getting too cold. His hands are abit chilly in the mornings, but he's nice and warm in his sleeping bag!

Our heating is only set at 10degrees and is giving me a headache. Something not right there then

Ah. You might want to get your thermostat checked! Lol. Xx

are you breast feeding? you may find it has nothing to do wsith the temp but is more your hormones settling down and being slightly dehydrated, especially if you are bf'ing overnight and not getting enough fluids,

Good point Kota

I was waking up with cold sweats for ages.

Our room is 16-17 degrees and H wears a short sleeve vest (had long ones when it was snowy) a sleep suit, a growbag and a cellular blanket which I have folded 4 times instead of the 2 times which is recommended

Might be worth getting your boiler and the emersion heater checked for leaks and carbon monoxide build up.
Sorry I realy dont mean to scare monger by saying that but its just somthing you should never take the chance with.

My LO always has icy hands unless he is overheated.
Also for the first 3 months I was seriously running on "hot" - OH is used to me being cold all the time, but I set our house at 3 degrees lower than normal and I was wearing a Tshirt around. I thought it was everyone else LOL but I must have had some weird hormones going on.

xx

We have our heating on constant at 17 degrees. Daisy has a short sleeved vest, baby grow and 2.5 tog sleeping bag. She is always warm enough although her hands feel always used to feel cold but thet's normal for babies.

We put our LO in a vest, sleepsuit, cardigan, 2 cellular blankets folded twice and a light fleece blanket on top. I know the books say only 2 blankets bla bla bla but she's cold and she can't settle and we check on her every 3 hours. We dont use central heating, it makes me feel like shit and it costs money and it's not that great for you anyway.

I have a 2.5 tog sleeping bag she's just too dinky atm for it.
