I'm 12 weeks tomorrow and feel like more should have been done by now.

When I got my BFP, I went straight to the doctors.

I told him and he just took my word for it, worked out my due date and asked me to book an apointment with a midwife. I thought he would check to see 100% if I was.

Anyway, booked my apointment with the midwife.

Went to the apointment, she gave me my info pack, asked my height (instead of measuring?) weighed me and took my blood pressure.

She arranged with me a date for my "booking apointment" and asked me to fill in as much of the paperwork as possible between then and the next apointment.

So the booking apointment comes, and she finishes the paperwork that I wasn't sure of, takes ONE vial of blood (for resus testing), tells me about checks for downs, tells me about an open day at the new maternity ward at the hospital. She then explains that about a week later I was to go to the doctors, pick up my paperwork (it was sent oFf with the small amount of blood) and then call to arrange my own dating scan for 12 weeks.

That's it. My dating scan is on Thursday 18th November.

I just feel like I'm clueless about my own pregnancy! I have plenty of information that covers pregnancies in general but nothing to let me know about mine! (Of course I have you guys but nothing from medical proffesionals)

I don't know if I'm resus neg/poss. I don't know my Hgc levels. I haven't heard my baby's heartbeat. Nothing.

The only information they've taken from me is weight, blood pressure, height (which I told them), one vial of blood and my and FoB's family history, which didn't ask about multiples (which run in FoB's family)

Am I right to feel clueless as to the well being of my little'un? Is anyone else just as vague about their own pregnancy at 12 weeks?

If this is very little in the way of info...what do i do? I'm worrying like mad that if something has happened to my little bean then I wouldn't have a clue.

Well this sounds like me and where i am now , i have my scan on the 24th and between now and then my mw should call me to come over and take all my history etc , i think this is all normall hun , is this your first ? x

I felt the same when I was expecting my first. Did not really know what was going on and when things would happen. I was lucky to have a few friends that have already had children so I picked their brains! You will get a letter if your bloods come back as rhesus neg/pos. You wont get to hear baby's heartbeat until 16 week appt and then they will check again at all the following appts. My MW asked me about multiples though so yours should have done. Hope this helps. Try to relax...you will get to see your LO on Thursday and that is amazing!!xx

I dont get to see my Dr. until Dec 8th at which point I'll be 12-13 weeks. Hes away and the receptionist said its normal to have a first visit at 12 weeks. Ive always had my first visit right when I found out, and then every month after that.
I posted about this in some forums and alot of women agreed that it is normal. I hate the waiting too. Who knows whats going on in there....

Yes, it is my first. I think that's why I'm worrying at the lack of personal information and the willingness of medical prefessionals to take my word for things ("I'm pregnant", "I'm 5 Foot 7 ish")

well this is my second with 6 yrs apart and ive noticed a huge lack in the way things are now ?

hate to say it, but my booking appointment was farmore comprehensive and my midwife tested for:
Hb (haemaglobin)
Blood Group
Antibodies
Sickle Cell
Thalassaemia
Rubella
Hepatitis B
Syphilis
HIV

She also left me with a green "Pregnancy Notes" folder with complete copy of everything she has - includes scan dates (which she had already booked) - all my family history, my hubby's family history, maternity contacts (if my midwife is unavailable), smoking & alcohol history, my own medical history, mental health, noted previous pregnancy loss, a risk assessment, a pregnancy planner filled out by midwife, and outlined important symptoms which should be investigated immediately.

All this was done for me!

same is what i am going through. my dating scan is on 25th nov and that would be the first time i will officially be told if i am pregnant.

When I had Harvey I saw the doctor when I found out (who took my word for it), had a booking in appointment with the midwife at around 8 weeks and my scan at 12 weeks. I saw the midwife every 4 weeks up until I went on maternity leave a month before my due date, then fornightly until EDD and weekly after that.

Don't be shy in asking the midwife or GP about anything you're not sure of - that's part of what they're there for.

OMG thats loads ! is this your first miss BB ? , i have my notes and had bloods but thats about it so far x

With my daughter, the doctor took my word for it and then arranged a midwife appointment. She didnt even weigh me and measure me, just what I told her. I didnt then have an appointment until after my scan.

I havent even been to the doctors yet. My friend called the docs when she found out she was pg with #2 and they told she didnt need to see a doctor and just booked her in for the midwife because it was her second. So I havent called yet. Probably will by the end of the week.

Its my first one thats sticking - I had one miscarriage back at Easter and bled the morning I was due to see the midwife so I never got anything from the last one!

But this is everything I got - I thought it was a lot, but midwife seemed pretty clued up - saying that she has 4 kids of her own :) x

These are the NICE guidelines for antenatal care. They outline what your midwife should have gone through at your first appointment.

It's rare for doctors to do a pregancy test to confirm a pregnancy, home tests are so reliable these days. They also don't take bloods (so give you HCXG levels) unless there's a specific reason to do so. I don't think her taking your qword for it on your height is really a problem, most people know how tall they are.

If you read the guidelines and don't think the midwife has done all she should have, why not ring her and tell her you're concerned and would like an appointment.

I was also disappointed by my booking appointment. I was looking forward to it, thinking I would be asked loads of questions and get a chance to discuss the pregnancy, but we just sat and went through the database questions and then I got the impression that she wanted rid of me! Little things bugged me, like the way there was clearly a section on allergies and she didn't ask a thing about them, I had to tell her I was allergic to Penicillin. And the blood test was the worst of my life! I think she went right through the vein as it was pretty painful and I still have a big bruise up my arm (this is almost two weeks later!).

I didn't get my prescription exemption form but apparently I should have done and I expected to be asked about my mother and my mother-in-law's pregnancies. This isn't on the list of questions they ask but when I mentioned my mother-in-law had a baby with brittle bone disease she changed my scan from low risk to high risk.

Incidentally, I've changed midwives but not on purpose. I signed up to a new doctors surgery nearer my home and will get a new midwife with them. I'm quite glad as the blood test was traumatic and I can't help think she was a bit incompetent! I have really good veins for blood tests and have never had a problem in the past.

Well I saw gp at 4wks to tell them I'm pregnant but they took my word for it he worked out my due date and said I should hear from the mw within 2-3 weeks. I'm now 11+2 weeks still havnt heard from her I even left a voicemail about 2wks ago?!
Xx

On the other hand, not hearing too much from drs and mws could be a good sign that everything's OK with you.

From the minute that no #1 was conceived, I had appointments every week simply because I was (allegedly) at such high risk of suddenly dropping dead. It was unbelievable stressful.

So really, I much prefer being left alone...

quercus1 - I got my prescription exemption card in the post after my booking in appointment

hey when i thought i was pregnant.. (pregnancy test realllliii faint) the doc sent me for a blood test to check.. which firstly came back inconclusive!! so had to have another a day later which came back positive. they sent me away with a prescription for folica cid and passed my details onto midwife which would call me to book my booking in appointment.

She called me about 2 week later (as she was on holiday for a week) and i got my appointmemt a few days later. She cam to my house (as thats how they do it here) and went through all my green notes.. asked about history allergies multiples everything.. gave me my exemption form to send off and a bounty pack with loads of info in. She also felt my stomach to make sure at 8 week she couldnt yet feel the uterus as if she could would be a sign or twins!! she couldnt feel anything.. phew.. lol. (im a twin & know i would be sooo shocked as doesnt run in the family)

she also called the hospital there and then to book my dating scan as i had prev had a m.c and was stressing. They normally send you a letter but she called for me to put my mind at ease.

Since then ive had nothing.. i have my scan next monday!! cant wait!!

here she says they will do my bloods / urine sample and obv scan too.

Whenever i do call her she does answer and puts my mind at ease and i also had a doc appointment today as i have a uti and she saw me in the waiting room and took me into her room to feel mt stomach and i can feel my uterus now :)

Different hospitals and care teams do things differently so i wouldnt worry hun

take care x

Hi im invading from 3rd tri :flower: im 30 weeks pregnant and have only saw a midwife after my 12 week scan , 16 weeks , 22 weeks and my next isnt till im 33 weeks so hows that for crap ive only seen her 3 times , also here when you get the 20 week scan you do not get a check from a midwife afterwards :growlmad: and this seems to be the norm for women who have had multiple pregnancies , like yourself my last pregnancies were 6yrs and 12 yrs ago and have noticed a massive difference to the point where I think its shocking :growlmad: how is our and our babies health being checked properly if you are only being checked a few times in an entire 9 month pregnancy ?????

Thanks for the message. It wasn't mentioned at my booking appointment and it's been two weeks now. I'm in for my scan next week so I'll mention it then if it hasn't arrived in the post.
