Being a first time mom, I am asking your advice on which items I am going to find the most useful (must haves) and which ones I truly won't need. I also want to know if I should have a baby checklist, what do I need to get done before LO arrives? All advice is well appreciated!

on your things to do before baby is here list....I would child proof all the rooms baby will be in. I didnt do this before my daughter was born and nearly forgot all about the plug covers when she was starting to crawl. Life just gets so busy once baby is here....do it now and save yourself the terror of realizing you didn't do it soon enough!!!!!

Also before you have the baby make some dinneer dishes you can freeze and reheat later. I found that finding time to remeber to take something out for dinner and cooking was a huge problem during the first 2-3 months. Luckily I had lots of ppl come over and cook for us but this time i will be cooking lots of freezer meals.

Making meals ahead of time is a great idea.
I never used a baby bath or a bumbo chair or a walker or a jumper. I used the swing, bouncer and a floor mat with a toy bar a lot. I didn't use the baby monitor (my home was small enough that it was unnecessary) and I didn't use any sort of baby carrier (the kind that you wear on your front or back). It wasn't possible to have too many bibs. I didn't have a bottle drying rack but it would have been super helpful - I already bought one for this next baby.

swings are your best friend! they soothe a fussy baby right up. you can never have too many onesies (vests?) or blankets. we go through about 3 onesies a day and i use 2 blankets at night. i use my baby bath cause i can bathe him in the living room that way it warmer for him than the bathroom. that's all i can think of at the moment!

gripe water or infacol hun most babies get colic at some point and the first time they get it you can gurantee you've got nothing in to help soothe them my daughter got it at 5 days old and i had to find a late night chemist sharpish !!!
and plenty of mop ups just cloths or something you can grab cause they can really dribble or bring up milk when they want and having things to grab really helps avoid mess !! ive bought extra im having a boy and can imagine i will need them come nappy change time too if i dont want a shower ive just bought loads of flannels and muslims to use x x

i agree! gas drops are a MUST! or if you can't get to the store try dissolving a peppermint in 4oz of water then give your baby an oz. helps em get the gas out! and plenty of burp rags because they love to puke. specially if they don't get burped properly.

You Gotta get a Jumperoo! :D Jace lived in his and LOVED it!

Diaper Genies to me are a waste of money. We always ended up just throwing the nasty diapers in plastic grocery bags and tossing them. The Diaper Genies end of smelling still even though they are suppose to help prevent odor.

Thanks for the great ideas girls! I really need to start getting prepared before I get too big and tired to do it, oh wait...I already am :)

LadyBelle thank you for this thread! I'm pregnant with my first too, and have been hoping that I haven't bought anything unnecessarily! So far I seem to be on track :)

Oh by the way, when it comes to getting rid of nappies, Tesco are selling nappy bags 9p for 100 - I'm stocking up! :)
