hi kayleigh89 I am in same boat as you I am waiting for my appointment to come through for lap and I'm a little scared! I started a thread in long term ttc section there's some replies on there that may help you. When is your appointment? Good luck!

Hi. I had one June 09. Was a bit painful after. You feel all achey in the shoulders because they put air in to you to blow your stomach up to have a good look around. Was off work for 3 days after and felt fine just a couple of stitches in each hole. I fell pregnant the following month aswel!!!!

Oh i think i put the wrong thing on i ment the one with dye lols sorry x

i had one in 2008..i was put to sleep so it didnt hurt at all while they were doing it..i couldnt eat anything the day before only drink clear liquids and they gave me some stuff to drink to clean out my system or something like that..and some soap i had to use in the shower before i went..and then i got there and waited for the dr they gave me the stuff so i could pass out..and then i woke up after it was done and had to wait a couple hours in recovery..i was pretty sick afterwards though i started throwing up and all that..and sore but they gave me some pain meds to help with that

I just had the dye test (hystereosalpingogram-HSG test) this month . It was uncomfortable but not too terrible. I was scared to death to get it done after reading horror stories on the internet. They say if your tubes are clear then it doesn't hurt. If your tubes are blocked it could be more painful. Mine were clear so it wasn't so bad. Just tell yourself it's all for a good cause! It is supposed to make your more fertile in the next 3 months following it. Here's to thinking positive! :winkwink:

Hi Kayleigh, |I had one in June 2010. They give you a few med's a couple of hours before, then when you go into the operation room anestetic. All I remember from there is, the nurse calling my name. I woke up was busting to pee, but it stung quite a bit.

I was in pain for about a week, its hard to move around as they cut through the muscles. But to be honest its so worth having done. The doctors and nurses are great, and the scars arnt too bad, I have one you cant see in my belly button and one on my side thats a X shape about a cm in size.

xx

I have heard alot of women say its the worst pain they have felt. I haven't had one done but, more than sure I would be VERY afraid to!!

Each woman is different and yes, they give you pain meds before hand to "help". If its an option, have them put you out!! lol

BTW, I think the Laparoscopy is surgically done and the other is done via dye through the vagina/cervix. Either way, not fun!

i did one in july to remove fibroids. it was my first surgery ever so it was more stressful leading up to it than anything.

they have you clean out your digestive tract the day before the surgery - you basically take a laxative

then they ask that you remove jewelery and shower with antibacterial soap before you go in the day of

they put you put and you wake up in recovery room. they made sure i could eat without throwing up and that i was able to walk.

i was given lots of drugs to go home with. the pain was mostly the next day and for a week after. laughing, moving, walking, rolling over in bed all came with some pain but that is why you have the meds.

it took me two weeks before i went back to bed. the physical pain wore off in a week but my brain was pretty foggy during the second.

i am fibroid free now and ttc.

*edited to add* - yeah they inflated my stomach too. my friend's 4-year old even commented on it and asked why i was making my belly so big. the shoulder pain wasn't that noticeable - maybe because i was on meds.
