I'm 36 weeks and i mentioned on another thread that i'd started with upper back pain this weekend, sort of where the band of my bra would go.

My bras fit well and i'm neither big busted or big bumped

Around lunchtime today that pain has suddenly gone and now i have immense pain on my left shoulder, right on top near my neck. It sort of feels like whiplash almost. The other pain was mild in comparison.

I've tried a bath and some heat and it's not easing. I've tried getting on all 4's in case this is baby pressing on a nerve or something but no relief. I've checked my notes and there's no mention of shoulder pain being an issue that I should possibly call about.

Can anyone reassure me this isn't related to any of the pg nasties and is just a normal pg ache and pain? No ones answering at the midwives and it seems extreme to call labour ward.

Id say phone L&D and have a chat, it could be you have moved wrong or something without noticing, but, is shoulder pain not also a sign of Pre-eclampisa?

Phoning the labour ward is more or less phoning a midwife, they are just as nice and like you to phone over the little things than leave it and risk it becoming a big thing!

Im guessing at it, and trying to remember something i was told ages ago so i could probably be wrong, but id phone L&D anywho!

keep us updated x

Thanks ladies, I think pre-eclampsia is right shoulder pain?

The pain shifted further up from my left shoulder late last night to my neck, making it difficult to turn my head to the right.

This morning I felt babies torso move to one side (baby is OA, spine up my middle) and almost instantly felt the pain ease off, although my neck is still sore and stiff to turn I can at least now keep it still without pain.

I'm going to call L&D / MW this morning to check it couldn't be pre-e or blodd pressure related.

It's sounds like a 'creaked' neck but phone your MW for reassurance.

If neck movements are painful then I'm pretty sure it's muscular skeletal. You want to ice not heat. Frozen peas with a tea towel around. Apply to neck and shoulder for around 10minutes every hour or so. Try to relax. Gentle movements not pushing in to pain.

If you want some heat stand under a shower and gently stretch the muscles but ice it again after.

Glad its easing for you, did you speak to a midwife?:hugs:

Hi there, I think I posted on your other thread about similar back pain that I've bbeen having ?

Sounds to me like it might be a trapped nerve or something. I mentioned my rib problem and how it irritated the nerves in my shoulder and arm. Felt like a weakness combined with pain (heart attack !). It was painful but it went especially after chiro treatment.

Regardless of what it might be, you should probably call your dr or mw and get seen. Mine gave me a lovely injection of muscle relaxant (safe in pg) that helped a lot.

Hope you feel better.

Thanks all, I called the MW and she said it was something for my GP and not pg related.....although I strongly suspect it is pg related I suppose it's good that it's not a problem for baby.

It feels a lot better today, only stiff not if i turn my neck far one way. I'm not going to my GP unless it gets worse as i'd have to go to open morning surgery and wait 2hrs plus surrounded by germ ridden folk :)

Every once in a long while (maybe 6 times since I've been 16) my right shoulder gets extremely sore. Right along my bra line it will hurt really bad. It's not a sharp pain- it's a dull and deep ache that lasts a few hours at least. I have no idea what it is, but it's obviously not pregnancy related for me. My mom said it is "growing pains" although I don't know why it would still happen in my twenties. Perhaps you have the same thing as me.
