Contractions started at about 2am on Tuesday morning (may 28) about 40 mins apart for a while, enough to wake me but not bad enough to make me get up. By 4am they were bad enough and close enough to have me out of bed and moaning about the house.
They started coming about 2 mins apart for a while I chatted to a BnB friend who was up feeding her newborn while I bounced my way through them. I had a shower and that's when I realized it was time to get my stuff organised.
By 6am I was foot stomping and vocalizing and slapping bench tops. I realised that i had to leave for the hospital, soon. It was time to wake up the OH! (we had no baby sitter until after lunch time so i was heading to L&D on my own).
By 6:20am I had finally convinced OH that I was indeed in labour and he was not actually dreaming lol. We ordered a taxi and he very sadly and very anxiously waved me off.
upon arrival at 7am I was checked in and given an examination 5cm 90% effaced with bulging membranes.
They started filling the bath and while they did that hooked me up to the mobile ctg. Lila was tachycardic with a HB exceeding 175bpm, I would have to forgo my water birth
I had to be canulated and have fluids pushed to bring down her hb The doctor took 45 freaking mins to canulate me. I showered and walked around the delivery room for a while (thank goodness for mobile, cordless CTG machines that are water proof)
11am the OB came in and I requested to have my water broken I was 7-8cm and bub was still face up completely back to back, that's when I made friends with the gas and air (that shit is heaven sent!!) my student midwife tried to take it off me at one point and I threatened to punch her in the throat :/ I was the first labour that she had experienced too, haha
At 12:45 the stupid OB wanted to hook me up to the drip stating that I'd had no progress and I said not unless I get an epi ( i didnt actually want the EPI i was just buying myself extra time to get the baby out on my terms).
The lovely anesthetist came and set up everything. Now, I knew I had progressed, I could feel her head coming down and back up it felt like something was holding her in. The anesthetist was all ready to go so i knew i had to get a move on.
I all of a sudden sat up on the bed and my midwife smiled stuck her hand up there and found a lip of cervix that was holding her head in!
She pushed it back, I pushed once and Lila flipped over into the anterior position (yeah, ouch) and crowned I panted her head out, pushed once more and delivered the shoulders and body. The stupid OB was red faced, the anesthetist kissed my head and said congratulations and my midwives high fived each other.
My brother was on his way to my house so my OH could come and be with me for the birth. My brother left work at 1pm and at 1:04pm Lila was born.. Cheeky! Poor daddy missed it.
Lila was on my chest immediately and she stayed there for a good 2 hours
She weighed in at 6lb (2740 grams) and was 44.5cm (17.5inches long) at 37 weeks and 4 days.
