I put Lo down for his nap and he chattered away as usual. Then I heard him but not on the monitor.....I went upstairs and he was at the top of the stairs
So he's obviously got out of the cot somehow.....is he too old now? He's 14 months and quite tall but I do not know how he got out. Luckily he didn't hurt himself but I am worried in case he tries again in future and isn't so lucky.

What to do?

no help here, sorry! didn't want to R&R! What a clever lil' guy!

Hi my friends boys started doing this around that age so she got rid of the cot and got toddler beds for them and put a babygate on the door. It is much safer just incase he falls and hurts himself.

I think I would do this too X

Baby is still in with us so I guess it's time to move him into his own room and change the cot into a bed.
It's not quite so easy to get them to bed when they can easily climb out though is it?!

I'll ask my friend how she did it and let you know! Another mummy challenge I guess.

Can you see anywhere he might have got a foot up on? I'm desperate to keep Ted in his cot as long as possible, especially with #2 imminent, but have to admit that as soon as he can climb out, it'll be sides off xx

Thank you Babushka99. I do have 3 older children but unlike riding a bike it seems you forget all the little trials :dohh:
Oboeverity he has been swinging his foot right up so it rests on the cot side but I'm not sure how he has swung his body up and over :nope:
They're always clever in the ways you don't want them to be:nope:!

Yikes, clever little guy!!

I would maybe start a thread in toddler section too just to see if they have any good advice to offer :flower:

I've been worrying about my LO doing this so I'm looking into getting a toddler bed. I've stopped putting any big teddies or anything in the cot incase she uses it as a step (she does this a lot with other toys lol).

My 3rd child fractured his ankle falling out of his cot at 11 months old. It was on its lowest base and he had nothing to climb on but he still hauled himself out. He tried again the next night with his ankle in plaster! So we put him in a toddler bed. More often than not we found him under the bed, on the floor etc but at least he couldn't fall. By 13 months he could get over the top of normal stairgates so we had to replace them with the taller dog ones and his bedroom door had 2, 1 on top of the other. It was like living in Fort Knox.
My 5th child is already having attempts at 8 months to escape his cot. Its worrying me greatly.

Gro bags stop them climbing out.

I found my boys did it by lifting a foot onto the side of the cot and 'levering' themselves over. They did just fall out the other side, but it didn't stop them! Horrors!
