Our LO recently had her first cold too. I used the bulb syringe to clear out her nose when it was bad (right before nursing), and had a humidifier in the room to make the air less drying/irritating to her nose when she breathes. You can also take LO into the bathroom with hot running water to make steam, but don't stay in there too long so LO doesn't get too hot. I am not sure where you are from but at CVS (or other pharmacy or drugstore) they sell Baby Vaporub which is a strong smelling salve that you rub on LO's chest. The "fumes" help clear out sinuses. They also make a product called "Little Noses Stuffy nose remedy". I bought this after reading reviews, but ended up not using it because the other methods cleared it up so I am not sure if it works, but it got good reviews.
As far as making her feel better, lots of cuddles and mine comfort nursed a lot for the few days she felt really bad. Make sure she gets plenty of rest too and fluids (breastmilk or formula if she is still tiny). If she is under 2 months and has a fever, call a doctor and if she is over 2 months and has a high fever call the doctor. You can also give her baby tylenol (calpol) to bring the fever down, but I have actually heard it's best to let the cold run it's course (unless the fever is high of course!) because all babies get colds and I have even heard that it strengthens their immune system.
We are using calpol nasal spray on our LO at the minute as he is a bit stuffy too. Its just saline spray that helps clear their nose.
We also have a plug in that goes in his room( i think its calpol too) it smells a bit like vicks and the vapours help to keep him unblocked while he is sleeping. We plug it in about an hour and a half before he goes to bed and then turn it off once he is in his cot. It seems to work really well.
