Long blinking

For about a month my 20month old son has intermittently had "long blinks" where he closes his eyes for about a second. It came on suddenly and is definitely not a normal blink. He may do it more when he is overtired overall, but it is not associated with actually becoming sleepy. He does it more when we "disagree" about something and I tell him verbally that he cannot have his way. Then he might do it 3-4 times in more rapid succession. Other times I may not see it for multiple days in a row.

I have read that it can be due to shutting out mental or emotional stimulation and that this can be a normal developmental phase. But it bothers me because it just does not seem normal.

Has anyone else had experience with this?
Thank you.

Not that specifically- but my LO went through phases she'd do some odd things (facial epressions etc). I remember, as a kid, going through stages too- like a nervous habit- but it passed in time.

No great insight- if it continues, can't hurt to ask about it at LO's next checkup? Done that too! :hugs:
