So I've been looking for a job since before I found out I was pregnant. I have never ever ever been without a job, but we just moved to a new state to follow DH work, and I had to leave my position to start all over. There are endless jobs to be had here, but the process is slower than I expected, I found myself pregnant sooner than we anticipated and I'm starting to show enough that I will soon be unable to pull it off as just being fat. =p

I just got a call to go into an interview for a part time job next Tuesday.

Here's where I need help. Obviously, if I tell them in advance that I'm pregnant, I will NOT get the job. Yes, it's illegal in the states to discriminate and whatnot, but I'm not stupid, that's how it would work. But suppose they offer me the position..............when and HOW do I tell them that I'm pregnant?

Any thoughts?

I'm having the same problem. I'm looking for work too. I intend to just not say anything of I'm hired for at least a couple weeks . I'm not going to look for time off or anything so not a big deal since I'm only looking for part time stuff

I need to start looking for a job, too. I'm currently out of state until the 1st of July and by the time I get back home I'll be 25 weeks! Even though I'm not huge yet, I don't hold much hope for someone to hire me, especially since all the jobs in my area are restaurant jobs. I think it's still worth a try, though!

If I were you, I'd be honest up front. Obviously they're going to find out sooner or later that you're expecting, and a lot of places really appreciate integrity. Plus, if you do get the job, most likely they will be more understanding if you have to take a day off for a pregnancy related issue.
So chances are at some point during the interview they will ask you if you have any questions and you could probably use that time to tell them. I can't really give advice as to what to say because I don't know what kind of job it is you're going for, but I'd make sure they understood you being pregnant wouldn't effect your job performance and you'd still be an asset to the company. They may decide not to hire you, and if that's the case, screw that place, and keep looking.
:winkwink:

Ps. I started a new job when I was 4 1/2 weeks pregnant. I didn't tell my employer about my pregnancy since it was so very early, but it ended up biting me in the ass because literally the day I started the job, my morning sickness hit, and it hit HARD. I ended up having to quit the job because I was so sick and I couldn't work, I didn't go back after the first day. :( So not only did I look bad for quitting after one day, I had to be like, "Yeah, the reason I'm not coming back is because I'm pregnant and I have morning sickness..."
:dohh:

You're definitely in a tough spot! You're right in that a lot of places might be reluctant to hire you if they know you're pregnant. However, I think you should be honest. It's not like you're only a couple weeks pregnant and could claim you didn't know about it. Once they find out they'll know you withheld the information, and that will look pretty bad. Regardless of what you choose to do, I wish you luck!

I started a new job two weeks ago, its in a baby store.

The application process was quite long, just over a month, as its a new store opening and after i had the interview i found out i was pregnant but i still took the job. I told them this week that i am pregnant and they were totally fine with that. They have actually employed two other pregnant ladies, one is about 21 weeks and the other 30 weeks.

I would wait until getting a job offer in writing before telling them about the pregnancy. It's not dishonest, they're not allowed to ask if you are pregnant in the interview so you won't have to lie.

Even though it's illegal to discriminate, most employers would not want to waste their time hiring someone who needs to leave in a few months. You need to look out for what's best for you.
