Just over 32 weeks pregnant and I swear it looks like my baby is breathing....! It doesn't feel like hiccups, which are like pulses. I can barely feel it, more that I can see my belly/bump going up and down quite quickly (every second?)

Anything to be concerned about/phone mw about?

That is most likely your heart beat from the sounds of it.

I had it other day me and OH watched it, think it was her breathing x

Hmm... I have absolutely no idea!! But I do know in utero babies do use their lungs. They "practice" so to speak. Not actual breathing, but the movement. It very well could be what you are seeing,t it is not harmful in any way. :)

Aw man... this makes me wish I wasn't so chubby! :haha: I bet that's a cool thing to see.

Just read the link and at least we know babies are nice and healthy

Thanks for this!! I don't think I'm all that thin, but I am all bump and my skin is very tight across my bump. Feel very privileged to be able to see my baby practise his/her breathing!!

I went for my 32 week scan on Monday and the sonographer seemed really excited to tell us 'ooh look, your LO's practising breathing' and you could see it's abdomen moving in and out rhythmically. Never really thought about it til I read this thread!

Iv had this loads of times and its always left me scratching my head! Assumed it must be either baby breathing or sucking thumb maybe?

I had this too. I just made a post the other day but I described it as sucking really fast lol also it's by the back x

Wow that's so strange, I had this happen earlier this evening, right where baby's back is. I could see my bump going up and down rythmically and I showed dh and asked him to feel and he said 'maybe baby's breathing'! I didn't realise you could see/feel this! That's really cool :)

I'm so glad I just found this thread as I have just had this while lying in the bath. It is really nice to see.

I've had this several times and mentioned to a colleague, who has a small child, that I thought it looked like baby was breathing but she dismissed it. Now I'm glad this thread was posted as I don't feel stupid now for thinking baby was in fact breathing! How awesome!

The link is interesting...I weighed 206 pounds when I became pregnant and have gained 14 pounds so far. But, I've been feeling the practice breathing since about 24 weeks or so, if I recall correctly. So, I don't think being thin really has anything to do with it. Also, my weight tended to be in my belly, too, so it's not that.

I am having a boy, though...so I almost wonder who else is having a boy and has noticed this practice breathing?

Or maybe he's going to be a big boy? All this time I assumed he would be smaller because I've only gained 14 pounds.
