If you have a luteal phase defect, is that something that would be picked up on a blood test? I've had CD3 and CD21 blood tests and all showed my levels fine. My luteal phase is slightly short though. Well when I say that, it's not that it's short, it's just that I start spotting 2-3 days before my period. My LP is generally 13 days which is fine, but I often start spotting from about 11-12dp, sometimes earlier. I don't know if you have to take into account spottoing with your luteal phase but I do but is a luteal phase defect only because you have low progesterone?

My fertility doctor said my luteal is short, and the temps are not high enough.
I usually have about 14/15 days between ov and AF, but the temp does drop few days before AF, sometimes with pre-AF spotting.

I'm taking Vitamin B-complex tablets in the hopes it'll improve, but it's through my choice, not my doctors (he doesn't believe in Vit Bs).

Hi Susan - Im in a similar position - my luteal phase is 9-10 days and I get 5 days pre AF spotting (so 14 days total but if i'm spotting so early then egg would surely not be able to implant). When I charted my temperature it was also very low. I am convinced I have a Luteal phase defect and its one of, if not the only, reason Im not conceiving.

I tried the bvitamins and they did diddly squat for me - so gave them up. Then i read about MACA and started taking that last month and I had a 14 day LP followed by 3 days spotting (2 of which were really light) so nearly 17 day LP altogether - MACA is suppose to balance out any hormones that are out of wack - so this is 2nd month on them and really hoping they either improve the cycle more (no spotting at all) or I get a BFP - only 5DPO at he mo so time will tell!!!

And to answer your question - im not sure if they can pick it up on blood test - i did read somewhere that you can get progesterone tests done every other day leading up to AF to see if the levels have increased enough to sustain a pregnancy - but im not 100% sure on that - maybe ask your dr but I know what Dr's are like (he'll dismiss it and say your fine )
