Can a long luteal phase affect when you can test + on HPT?

For example - let's say my luteal phase is 20 days. At 14 DPO, I test and it is negative. Based on DPO, this seems like a good time to test, but based on days before my missed period, it's too early.

Hmmm?

HPTs work based on the amount of hcg present in your urine. The hcg level increases with the amount of time that passes after implantation. It's the DPO that affect the positive HPT, not the number of days prior to AF.

Ok! So luteal phase in no way affects the timeline for implantation to take place (which then produces hcg)?

Long luteal phases basically just give you some extra bumper days.

Exactly! HCG first enters your bloodstream/urine when the fertilized egg implants in your uterus, about six days after the egg is fertilized. The amount of hCG in your body then increases rapidly over the next few weeks, doubling every two days or so.

Your luteal phase is generally the same for each cycle -- it's the number of days before O that varies.

Thanks Wildflower, I was wondering this as well! Sadly I have a short LP so 10 dpo is one day before AF is due, got a :bfn: but based on this I guess waiting a few days after it's missed would probably be more accurate!
