i think it's a beautiful name, and that's what i'm calling my little girlie!! although mine's gunna be madeline (after the 1950's book and the 1990's film) ;) but even though mine's said slightly differently i had one person who said "you don't wanna be taking her to portugal then".. which to be honest wasn't funny..

it's a pretty name and if everyone went on these things there would be no names we could use.. loads of people are called james (but he was a young boy who was tortured, nobody brings that up) or what about holly and jessica (the girls who were killed by ian huntley) - i don't mean to bring it up, but they went missing too...
it could get really silly, it's a name, and it should be assosciated with your little girly not with the girl who went missing!

Sorry to be the one to rain on your parade!!!

Me and hubby loved this name but every time I say it I am reminded of that poor wee girl. I mentioned it to a couple of people and they were exactly the same.

A few friends said it would be bad luck, now I don't believe in that but it did put something in my mind and I just couldn;t call my daughter it now.

I thought of just Maddie or Madison but in the end we have gone for something completely different

I think it is a lovely name and although it is obviously reminiscent of that poor girl, it isn't the sole or even primary connotation for me. When I think of the name Madeleine I think of the little girl in the Ludwig Bemelman books that my girls loved when they were little. I would use it and buy her a little box set of the books

Obviously i adore the name  Our Maddi was conceived in 2007, so we thought alot about the poor McCanns, which is why we decided on a different spelling.
though i don't believe it should put you off using the name you love, it's just so sad to think about what happened to Maddie McCann

Madeline is a lovely name, don't let other people tell you not to use it :)

I think that's a beautiful I'm actually naming my girl Madilyn :)

thats my best friends name we call her maddie. love it!
