I had female MWs this time, but I'm going to a male OB next month for a preconception/ possibly first prenatal appointment. I don't think it really matters. When I was being induced in the hospital I had 2 male OBs and a female OB. I liked all of them. I think personality is more important than gender. (And when I was in labor I really didn't care who saw down there.) I wish I could go back to the same OBs that I had in the hospital, but they only do hospital deliveries and no prenatal care.
I've only ever had a female obgyn. I just don't know if I could ever feel comfortable having a male obgyn. Plus, I'm not quite sure OH would like me having a male doctor looking down there.
I had only female OBGYNs before pregnancy and never thought I would ever be comfortable with a male. However, we moved abroad, I found out I was pregnant, and the best OBGYN in the area was a man. He is fantastic, gentle, explains things well, and is honestly better than any other OBGYN I have ever had. He was fantastic throughout the pregnancy. I have never felt uncomfortable with him and here in Germany you don't get a gown, just take off your pants and underwear behind a curtain, walk to the table, and put your feet up . My husband came to some of the appointments and liked him as well .
Female for me. I won't have a male doctor down there as I've been abused.
I think I would prefer a female OB/GYN. I just can't fathom allowing a man to do all the necessary things during pregnancy!
Which do you prefer or most comfortable with ? I have had both , but my tomboy doctor has a way of making you feel relaxed regardless of what she is telling you

I once had a male ob/gyn when I lived in the states (and was much younger - like 19/20). I really liked him because he was about 85 (no, really) and was really respectful and still did everything himself. I went in with what I thought was a yeast infection and he actually took the swabs, got out his microscope, and looked at them, instead of sending them off to some lab like the younger doctors would have (it was such a relief to know nothing was wrong right away!). But that said, I think he was an exception. I would never want a male doctor now (too much water under that bridge, I'm just not trusting of people anymore and would feel violated). Thankfully, here you almost always see a nurse or midwife (who tend to be female) for any sort of pelvic exam (unlike in the U.S. where you usually see a doctor for everything). I did read the other day about someone having a male midwife show up for their home birth. I think that would freak me out.
