Is it just me or is the advice "just get your normal pre-pregnancy size" in clothing a load of bull? I was a 16 pre pregnancy and not one pair of size 16 maternity trousers fits me! I just got a new pair and keep having to pull them up. I have a size 14 pair that fit perfect... is it just that they think they'll add a little extra fabric so we dont feel bad about gaining weight as we will still fit in them! gr, whatever it is It's annoying. Rant over Hehe XX

Likewise! I am a pre-preggo size 16 and my DH went out and bought me works trousers and jeans etc when I started needing them (7 weeks ) I'm now just over 17 weeks and still pulling the damn things up!

Same here, I was a 10 before, and yet on the tightest fitting at 18 weeks, my maternity jeans are still falling down (I daren't bend over in company!) and worse still, my hubby bought me a couple of pairs of jeans and tops in a size 12.... I don't think they'll ever fit!

I am a 14 pre pregnancy and i got given some size 12 maternity trousers and the bloomin thing won't stay up i spend all day pulling them up. I didn't think they would fit when i got them but not because they are too big i thought i would be too fat for them:)

I think it just depends on the trousers and the size of your bump. I bought a load of trousers around 15 weeks (in my pre pregnancy size)and always had to pull them up. Now at 23 weeks they stay up on there own and one pair is now too small and it's not like I have put on loads of weight - I'm all bump! xx

I agree with the other comments

I have had to go op in some brands and down in others, h&m Trousers forget it im only a 10 and had to get a 14 and im only 27 weeks but im sure they wont fit much longer, where as other brands, river island 12, Dorothy Perkins 10 (too big), H&M 14, Mothercare 10. iv decided to just try till I get a pair that fits lol.

lets be honest the only person close enough to see the lables in side of your clothes is probably going to see you naked so they know what size you are lol :) Xx

It's not the bump that doesn't fit, its everything else lol. I weigh the same as I did pre pregnancy so haven't changed size. Why can't they all just be the right size! Lol. Thanks for replying :) XX

i think they are designed for when you have a proper big bump. All mine were big until i was 25 weeks and now i need the next size up. My hips have really widened in the last few weeks to, not cos of flab but my shape has changed! Jx

Yes i'm finding the same but figured bump is not big enough yet. But what I do find is that not only the waist, but EVERYTHING is massive - the thighs for example. It's so irritating as i'm too big for my normal clothes now but too small for maternity! I'm living in loose trackies!

I hate the fact most are only available online. As the sizing is so weird I spend my whole life trying them on then sending them back!!!
I still don't have a pair of black work trousers - arghhhhh

ah, this confuses me loads so I always try and try clothes on, pre-preggers I was an 8 on a good day, now nothing in maternity under 12 will fit, I got size 14-16 underwear to be safe and they fit lovely :)

Im glad Im not the only one with problems! Mine have been the other way. I was a 14 when I got pregnant and from 10 weeks normal clothes wouldnt go near me. Different shops drive me mad with their sizing. Asda 14s are too big. still now Matalan 14 black pants fit lovely but their jeans are too small. Ive had 14s from mothercare that are too big and too small, Next 14s ...forget them, far too small and Mamas and Papas 14s too small. I was so upset, because I have curvy hips it seemed to be the problem, not my bump. It drives me mad they only do it online, why should we have to pay extra P&P because we're pregnant. Im sticking to dresses mostly because of my fat bum :(

I'm also having problems - I was a 14/16 pre-pregnancy but am very tall so can only get my trousers from the tall sections of shops like New Look and Next - its frustrating a lot of those shops now do tall and they do maternity but they dont do tall and maternity ! :( I've got some standard maternity leggings which are comfortable and dont need to be so long and I splashed out a lot of money to get some tall maternity jeans from a specialised shop but they are not very comfy, I got a 16 and they feel tight already on the waist (or what used to be my waist !). I need to get new work trousers so think I will just get tall in a bigger size and hope that works :(

I think I tried on 15 pairs of pants at the store in order to come away with 3. The store I went to only sized them at S, M, L and XL. I was 14 weeks when I bought them and starting to finally get a bump so I went with whatever fit at the time--and I mean fit on the legs, bum, hips, etc. The material over the bump is meant to stretch so I hope it grows with me. I already am getting a nice bump so it stays up OK. I actually love my maternity jeans. It makes my bum and legs look so good! ha ha I hope I don't gain too much weight otherwise I will need to size up. I'm sure my bump is gonna get HUGE so I am really hoping the stomach material is very stretchy.

I was pretty much a 14 before and have to say it's been lovely to go down a size. All my maternity clothes are a size 12 and I feel I have plenty of room to grow. The only problem I have found is finding stuff in shorter lengths as I'm not very tall!

I have that problem too. So I felt pretty lucky that the store I went to had also offered "petite" versions for all their sizes. And "petite" just means shorter leg lengths and they are perfect for my height. The regular sizes would have required quite a bit of tailoring. Also, there was a huge New Year's sale going on but the only stuff left on the sales racks that weren't butt-ugly were the petite sizes! Saved myself $20.

I was a size 14 before getting pregnant and all my maternity clothes that are comfy are extra large! I wouldn't say I was extra large.

Well havent actually bought any mat clothes yet. I hate them! I live in leggings and just got a bigger size. As for tops, well im just wearing some of my normal looser fit or empire line tops in my usual size. The thing i find in this pregnancy is the bust is tight rather than my bump..and i do have a bump. I just use my things that i have and stretch it over my bump lol!! I know i will eventually have to buy some stuff but im not into mat jeans as they are just so bloody annoying. stretchy waist trousers for work out of asda and leggings for me with smock type/tunic tops!
Btw, just a thought but is it really possible not to put on weight when you are pregnant? I dont understand how you can weigh the same when you have a baby growing in there? I dont bother with the scales ever personally.
