Ok so my boss called me in last week to discuss my due date and leaving date. My due date is 29th Jan, so I said I'd leave 13th Jan (2 weeks prior)

We are off for the 2 weeks over Christmas so my plan was to get a doctors note starting from Jan, but my boss said if I need to go early its no problem she'll rearrange my dates (meaning bring my date forward)

I really dont want extra days taken out of my 6 months maternity as I'll want as much time as possible once I give birth, Is there anything I can do, I dont think there is :dohh:

Do you have any holiday you can take - not sure how it works in Ireland, sorry!

If you're absent for pregnancy-related illness any time in the four weeks leading up to your maternity leave, it will begin automatically from the first day you were off. So getting a doctor's note won't help from that point of view - either way your maternity leave will start earlier. But don't forget your holiday entitlement continues to accrue at the normal rate whilst you are off, so you could always tag these on to the end of your maternity leave to stretch it out a bit, or ask if you can 'borrow' them to add to the beginning of your leave? Again though, that's UK rules, so Ireland may be different.

No Ive no holidays left, I was told one of my babies wont survive once born so I took whatever days I had left a few weeks ago to get my head around it all.

Sounds good, I really should look up my entitlements.
Thanks

I'm not sure how it works in Ireland, but in Canada if you get a doctors note, you can take sick time, then follow with regular mat leave once the baby is born. I know a couple of girls that I work with who needed to do this for the last two months or so of their pregnancies, and they still got their full mat leave in addition to sick time. Mind you they say it was a big struggle with the boss to get this. I hope you're entitled to this as well, and fight for it if you are! Good luck!

ive taken any remaining holidays i had first and then my mat leave will officially start. im due on the 12th of jan but stop on the 1st december! :) x
