Maternity leave

Hi ladies

I am wondering if any of you started a job while you were pregnant? I'm 8 weeks and looking for work. I'm a nurse and currently work on the temporary staff side of the hospital, but I have no contract. I know I wont get full maternity pay but my friend is insistent that I would get the government stat maternity pay as long as I'm working before I go on mat leave. I have tried looking this up online but I think my situation is too specific for the FAQs on the DWP website.

Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

Personally I doubt whether it's worth doing at this point. Everyone that's not been working for the same employer long enough to get SMP or people currently not working get the same benefit (maternity support allowance) could be wrong, check direct.gov site though.

if u work for NHS, if u look on their intranet web page, I think under the policies...and scroll down until you get to the maternity file, you'll find information there.
