Maternity Pay help....

Right ladies...

My work has just issued me with my maternity pay entitlements. Im entitled to 52 weeks maternity leave. 39 weeks SMP.
Does that mean i dont get any income for the rest of the 13 weeks after that? and i wont be entitled to anything?

It doesnt state anything in my letter, and only gives me and end date after 52 weeks.

the last 13 weeks, if you chose to take them are unpaid.

they have to assume you are taking a year off, so it'll be up to you to confirm your return to work date if you want to go back before SMP runs out after 39 weeks.

You only get the pay for 39 weeks, if you have the other 13 weeks off, it is unpaid unfortunately

The other ladies are right - if you choose to have the full 52 weeks off work, you only get paid for the first 39 weeks, the last 13 weeks are unpaid.
Not many people can afford to have the last 13 weeks off, so most go back to work after 39 weeks.

You could look in to working tax credits as your still classed as employed for that period when on maternity leave it could bump your income up depending on your situation. Have a look on www.turn2us.co.uk it's pretty good and let's your know what your entitled too xxx

Yep SMP is 39 weeks with pay, last 13 weeks no pay. I too am returning after 39 weeks cos I couldnt afford to not be earning anything!x
