Mattress Protector

We have bought this mattress for our lo.

I bought an extra cover so I could remove and wash this one. The lullaby trust says that the mattress needs to have a waterproof cover but this only says waterproof panel. Do I need to buy a waterproof mattress protector to go on top?

That link doesn't work but I don't understand why you'd neeeed a waterproof cover, but they are handy if you have a reflux or leaky baby.
