hi girls, i dont post much in here, because i feel like a bit of a fraud.

been ttc 3 years, unexplained infertility. first ivf consultation in june.

ive never charted temps, and on rare occasions i do ovulation kits. i just cant seem to get worked up. it really upsets me i can conceive, with no reasoning for it, maybe its a good thing im laid back, but do you girls think i should start charting or anything before ivf?

i always have reg cycles 31-32 days. ov on day 14 ish.

any advice? or anyone feel similar?

Hiya
Some people chart and take them along to their consultation. I have charted in the past now i just keep a record of my cycle like how long, ov day, spotting etc
Good lcuk with the IVF!

Hi Kirsty,

You aren't a fraud at all. I tried temping for 3 months when we started TTC 2 and a half years ago. Couldn't see a pattern then the battery ran out for the thermometerso I gave up. Have bought 2 ovulation test kits in the whole 30 months but never really got a result so gave up on that as well. We BD regularly (but not too regularly of course) and have had 6 rounds of clomid with all the monitoring and still not even a sniff. I don't think you have to chart and obsess to count as someone who is TTC.

Hope that helps and good luck with the IVF...

Hi Kristy,

If you haven't charted how do you know you ovulate? Have you had other tests done by a doctor? (I'm guessing yes, since you say you have unexplained infertility) Ovulation kits are great at predicting when you should ovulate - but a positive kit does not necessarily mean you will ovulate. To confirm ovulation, you need to see the temperature rise (from charting) or get a blood test done to determine your progesterone levels. I know many women who get positive OV. kits, but then don't ovulate, and others who get neg. tests but are in fact ovulating. Its a tricky business.

I don't know that you need to chart before seeing a doctor, as there is lots they can test for without seeing your charts (I didn't start charting until after I had seen a specialist). But I would certainly do some testing before deciding on IVF (if you haven't already). There is a lot of other less intrusive treatments for infertility depending on the cause.

If you are at the IVF stage then whether or not, or when you ovulate is not important anyway. As the drugs you take will take over your natural cycle in any event and grow lots of follicles for you. And you don't want to ovulate with IVF - so it doesn't matter then.

Good luck with your consultation, and with the IVF!! I'm starting stims, this week and can't wait to get going.:happydance:

hi wannabemum,

i suppose i didnt really explain myself that well. i have had numerous blood tests which all show im ovulating. i have on a rare month also done some ov kits. oh had sperm analysis which showed high sperm count but high number of deformed sperm, so although we are classed as unexplained, this could be whats wrong.

i have also had my hsg.

they seem to be pushing to go staright for ivf rather than trying clomid (which some get for unexplained) or iui.

ive always had reg af since coming off pill 4 years ago.

sorry its a bit muddled, only just home from work, lol.

good luck with your ivf!!!
