Hi ladies,

I've just had my 28 check up and measured at 25cm, the doctor said that I should be 28cm. I have to go back in two weeks to check for growth at which point they may send me for a scan to check that our baby is doing ok. Has anyone else had this? I hope everything is ok, I was having a tough day anyway and I'm now I'm worrying myself silly

Thanks x

hi hun, try not to worry. fundal height measurements are notoriously inaccurate.

i measured 26cm at 26 weeks, but by the time i was 32 weeks i was only measuring 29cm. i then continued to measure 3cm smaller and was sent for a growth scan because of reduced movement.

at the scan, baby was found to be perfectly healthy and he actually weighed 6.5lbs - i was 34 weeks pregnant, so he's actually pretty big! i asked the consultant why i am measuring small and she said she didn't know - it could just be because i am quite tall.

i know how worrying it is, it's so horrible because you automatically think something must be wrong but the measurements are really inaccurate. try to keep calm and see what happens at the scan - i hope all is well and i'm sure it is xx

Thank you so much for your post. I am 6' tall so maybe that's what it is, how tall are you?

hiya, when pregnant with my daughter, i was constantly sent for growth scans because my fundus measurements were small...i had midwife and consultant based care, mainly because of this. she eventually did stop growing at about 38 weeks they think, and also the fluid around her was low, so i was induced at 39 and she came into the world a perfectly healthy 6lb 6oz, a lil bit on the short side at 46cm, but everything was fine....and she was born on the 30th of november (2008) which i see is your due date! xx

oh i also thought i would mention, im 5"8 and they said my height could also be why i measured small. x

try not to worry hun its so commen and people go on to have totaly healthy babas... i measured 25cm at 25weeks then 26cms at 28 weeks but she recorded it as 25... :s 2bh she was a naff midwife... then at 31weeks i was 33cms!!! and at my last appointment at 34 weeks i measured 34cms lol... so its really not much to go on its purely a guide line... it can also depend massivly on babys position ... my LO was laying transverse at 28 weeks then head down at 31 weeks so im guessing his rump was stuck up making me look bigger then i was... then at 34 weeks he was 2/5s engaged so obvs he dropped down a bit and made my bump smaller...

So my babys all over the place according to the measurments lolx

Hi hun, dont worry yourself too much, easier said than done i know! But at my 32 week appointment i was measuring small at 29cm. My 36 week appointment which i have just had yesterday i am still measuring small, now 32cm, but my midwife said it was fine, there has been growth since the last time and heartbeat was good and i have been having movement. She did say that there doesnt seem to be much fluid around bubs, again not a problem as there is enough, but that would be why i am measuring small.

I am sure it will be the same with you. Just stay as healthy as possible until your next appointment with her and there should be nothing to worry about. Im sure you will be just fine hun xx

Hey hun

At 25weeks I was 22cm and sent for a growth scan
Baby small but not very very small and looked healthy with normal fluid etc.

At 28weeks I measured about 24cm and they started to talk about growth restriction, early induction etc.

At 30weeeks (today) I am around 25 or 26cm.
A growth scan today showed baby is still small but growing steadily - I think she is around the 25th centile line (they didn't tell me exact I'm just guessing as she was halfway between the 5th centile line and 50th centile line). She is heathy and has a normal level of fluid so I must just carry small or their measurements are completely inaccurate!!

One day a midwife would measure me at 25cm and two days later another would say I'm definately only 22cm so I wouldn't worry too much hun. xxx

i'm 5'8 - so being 6' is likely to be the reason you are measuring small! it's great that you are being scanned to double check though. try to keep calm and best of luck! x

Thank you ladies for your replies, it does sound like it could be to do with my height then and it does sound a little inaccurate if the baby's position can affect it. I feel a bit calmer about it now. I really appreciate all your replies :flower:

Thank you xxx

That happened to me last Thursday. I was 31 weeks and measuring 3cm too small.. I was also very sick and dehydrated. They did a scan, he was up to date with size,... :D I drank a lot of water and feel a lot better...

At my 30 week appointment I was told my baby was measuring small for my dates, I totally stressed over it. I had an ultrasound a week later and it turns out the baby is actually ahead in size for her gestational age. There are so many factors that can affect your fundal measurement, it's not very accurate. I'm quite tall as well, and maybe that had something to do with it.

i would assume its because of your height. Im the opposite to you, im 5ft! When i was pregnant i was measuring 5cm ahead! They sent me for a growth scan and said he was normal size. Basically i grew out the way because there wasnt enough room for my baby to grow up the way! Haha x
