Metformin success stories needed!!!

Wow 25? Yeah that is a bit odd, like you said you would think the sooner the better.
The only tracking of stuff I really do is I track my periods, which as I mentioned at one point are normally only provera induced. As far as ovulation goes, I test most days with an ovulation scope, and keep a record of what that shows. Over the last six months I have used the ov scope along with some opk strips and I know that I have not ovulated since I have been tracking. And I have not had a natural period since August.
I do have a BBT thermometer but I never really use it, I always forget to take my temp right when I get up before I have a drink or something like that.

So you mentioned you were ovulating every month though, have they given you a flat out reason why you cant get pregnant? Is it just the high insulin?
98% of what I have read about pcos and insulin resistance and all that stuff is that you don't ovulate.
So I found your situation kind of interesting. :)

I'm not very devoted to temping either. I used to and then I realized it just caused me more stress than it was worth. I had a habit of obsessing over my charts :dohh: And yes I do ovulate every month. Confirmed by U/S, blood work, opks, and I have ovulation cramps. I have had 2 chemical pregnancies so my RE said its my egg quality. Metformin, from what she said, is supposed to help improve egg quality along with reducing Insulin levels. But other than that she can't seem to figure out any other causes for me not getting pregnant and staying pregnant. How long have you been TTC? Have you been to see a specialist yet?

Hey ladies hope I can I join you I am on my second day of metformin 500mg for the first week then I will go to 1000mg. Next week. So the first day I took one I was fine then 10 hours later I woke up with a stomach ache then I began to vomit and have diarrhea I went on to work thinking it was the met well then I was running a fever of 102 so I came home called pharmacist and she reassured me it wasn't the met because it had been 10 hours since I took it and you don't vomit or run fever with met. So I took it again today and so far I feel fine. I am feeling better than yesterday and I must have gotten a 24 hr bug. I reall hope this works for us. I will be checking into this forum and hope to read more great stories about met helping woth getting pregnant.

Wow that all sounds pretty interesting. I guess I never thought much about the egg quality, I was more just focused on the ovulating!
I have been TTC for maybe 9 months. I have been to see a fertility specialist, who prescribed me the metformin. If I have to go on clomid I need to lose 20-40lbs before she will put me on it.
I got a blood workup, and an ultrasound which showed a few cysts on my ovaries. And metformin is obviously supposed to help with the insulin resistance, and hopefully I can lose some weight. Although I really dont feel like going to the gym when I feel sick all day :p

And resque07 Welcome!
I am also on my second day of metformin 500mg. And will be upping it to 500mg twice a day next week as well.
For me the side effects set in about an hour after taking it. Although I took my first dose around noon yesterday and when I ate breakfast at 7am this morning it made my stomach upset. I have noticed every time I eat my stomach gets upset/crampy.

As for the not vomiting lol I dk about that, I feel like I want to so I wont be surprised if it happens.

So is 1000mg per dau as far up as your dr is taking you?
I have to go up to 850mg tabs twice a day my third week, and that will just be for who knows how long.

I had posted a link to this site before, it has some great stories on it that really made me feel more determined and hopeful about the metformin.

Mandie im not sure how far he is going to up me he just said he thinks 1000mg should work I asked him if I could do 500 at first to see how my body does because I was so worried about side effects. He said that would probably be smart. Thanks for the link.

I have been on Metformin for just over 3 weeks. I started at 500mg the first week then went up to 1000mg the second week and am now at my full dose of 1500mg and I had very few side effects so working your way up to the most your supposed to take is way better, from what I hear!! So I wanted to share..I'm 7 do and all day today and yesterday I have been sooo emotional which is not like me. I'm having minimul cramps in my lower belly and I know this sounds weird but I'm having this constant twitching in my left eye. Lol don't know if thats related or not but I had to through it out there!! Just trying not to get my hopes up for the bfn I'm sure will happen this month :dohh:

Welcome!! I'm very glad I found this site and have people I can share stories with :hugs:

Yeah I also heard working you way up is better. When I saw that I was going up to 1700mg a day in the end I was like omg that sounds like so much but it sounds like 100mg-2000mg seems to be the going rate on metformin. Hopefully the side effects go away for me soon. Also I read something about metformin helping you eat less by actually presupposing your appetite a bit. (Dk how true that is) But I find myself wanting to eat more, and void off my diet which I have been stuck to for almost a month. I also think it might be making me tired, or thats just a coincidence lol.

I know today is only my second day but for me I can't eat hardly a thing and I am so unsure of what to eat and what not to eat. But I def don't have an appetite and I can't even finish a full meal like I normally can. It may just be bacuse of the side effects I dunno ....I hope they go away soon I am trying to be strong and not give up.....

Well I know you absolutely have to avoid fatty and sugary foods. French fries, fried fish, all that kind of stuff. And obviously stay away from soda. Whole grains and such are good, vegetables, fruits. In the beginning though I guess our bodies must just need to adjust, because even healthy foods don't sit right on my stomach. Even water makes it feel a bit blah. But by the sounds of it it takes 1-3 weeks of a consistent dose for it to adjust. It makes me really tempted to just go up to my main dose and deal with it rather than have to repeat every time I go up. But I don't think that would be a good idea lol

Well yesterday I never got hungry and when I made my self eat I couldn't eat very much at one time so far today I have had and apple and some carrots broccloi and almonds oh and a small slice of cheese. Im thinking about having a salad for dinner. Last week I weighed 217 this morning I weigh 212. I hope this stuff really works oh and I always drink water or juices im not a coke or tea person.

Wow, I don't have a scale but I don't think I have lost any weight so far lol. I was about 260 last time I got weighed. I had been doing 2 miles on the treadmill a day before starting the metformin. I know I should eat so I have been kind of just eating and dealing with being sick, but I would probably feel better if I just ate less. I always drink nothing but water, I love juice and soda, but the sugar in both just isnt good for PCOS. You may feel better if you cut out any juice you have been drinking, unless you know its just 100% natural sugar and is unsweetened. I have read that eating or drinking sugary things while on metformin makes you feel terreble.

I hope you start feeling better, and hopefully the metformin works for all of us. :)

*update* Has anyone else felt tired after taking their metformin? Or had cravings for junk food?
I have been sticking to my diet really well for about a month now, and it wasn't too hard. But now I am finding it hard to avoid the junk food, and I really want like some soda. I even had a headache yesterday, may or may not have been related. Kind of worrying maybe my sugar is too low?

Well maybe its just me but I am a soda drinker and have actually been fine with it while on Met. I have noticed though I don't get as hungry as I used to or as often! I have lost about 13 pounds in 3 and a half weeks! I'm due for AF in 5 days and am really getting anxious. I have more pronounced veins on my bbs which by the way feel like they have been run over by a bus. I also have new veins on my arms and hands that I've never noticed before! Anyone else ever have this happen? Hope all is well :flower:

Wow alyssa07 sounds like it is really doing some good for you! I hope I start getting some results soon. Have you upped your exercise or anything like that?

Well went all day sticking to a healthy diet yay me and I am having a good start today! Today is so far the first day I haven't had a headache felt nauseas or diarrhea or stomach cramps if im off work sunday and Monday like I think I will be I am going to up my dose to 1000mg a day like the dr wants me too. Its weird when I eat I can't finish my meals or the smallest snake fills me up. Normally im a bottomless pit always have been even when I was younger and as thin as a twig. Well other than the loosing weight part which would be a huge plus how long before some of you that have gotten preggo on met. Was it after the first month or several months.just curious.

Oooppps that snake is suppose to be snack....lol I hate snakes..

Yeah I'm really hoping this is my month! 18 months is wayyy too long to be still trying to get pregnant! And my job requires alot of physical activity so that probably helped some when I get home DH and I have been taking our dogs for a walk every night so I'm sure that's helped as well. And, I am the same way..I can feel like I'm gonna dtarve if I don't eat something but not even halfway through the food I'm stuffed. I also love the fact that I never crave snacks or sweets anymore. I hope everyone is doing well! I have been wanting to test for the past 2 days but think I'm gonna hold out until Monday with AF being due on Wednesday. Fingers crossed!!! :winkwink:

Well on the bonus side basically all side effects from the metformin are gone for me now. At least until I up my dose next week. I am hoping that I get a period or something soon, but I am not sure if the dosage really has anything to do with whether or not I get my period. Or if I will just get it regardless of if I am on 500mg or 1700mg. Just waiting for it because I feel kind of like if I get my period (which I do not get without provera) that it is like I dk, that I finally at least have a chance of getting pregnant.
Hope everyone else is getting good results, hopefully at least one of us will get a BFP soon!

My side effects are gone as well only took like e days however I up my dosage tonight to 1000mg so hopefully I have some good luck. You know I didn't expect anything to happen this month so I haven't tracked anything at all I don't even know what cd I am on. Im thinking you gotta be on this stuff for a while so it has a chance to get in your system before you can get preggo right so I thought why worry with it this month.

Yeah I am upping my dosage today as welll. My DR told me to keep track of what mg and when I take my doses as well as document any side effects I have. Most women seem to get their period within about 3 weeks or so, and I have read a lot of stories about women getting pregnant within 1-2 months of starting metformin, so i am just keeping extra track of everything. I keep track of everything anyways though lol.
I really dk what cd I would be on, I guess I would just have to count from the last day of my provera induced period.
I need to contact my DR to ask about whether I should take provera at the 6 week mark or just wait to see if the metformin works. Glad to hear your symptoms are gone as well, mine also took like 3-4 days to go away.
