I have started getting really bad migraines; I get them every two days or so and now they are lasting for 2 days at a time. Paracetamol, laying in the dark, cold compresses just won't shift them :nope:

Anyone else had this?

xx

Hi there,

I totally sympathise, migraines are HORRIBLE. I was on beta blockers for them before I got pg but had to stop taking them. I had trouble with them this pg up to about 15 weeks. The only thing that I found gave any relief was co-codamol which I got prescribed by the out of hrs dr & my consultant said they're fine to take. My consultant did look at putting me on a drug called labetalol which is used for high BP in pg, but it was decided that because I have very low BP the drug would make me feel really poorly as it would make my BP even lower. If the migraines really are causing you that much trouble then you could talk to your gp about that or ask your MW if you could be referred to a specialist.

Really hope they improve soon xx

i suffer from migraines normally and have to take imigraine for them however cant take this during pregnancy, ive been taking panadol extra with codiene in it, its 100% safe to use during pregnancy, the best advice is to rest, try sleep it off, drink lts of water and advoid and light noise etc as this can make it worse well it does for me.

jope this helps :hugs:

Only thing that helps me besides Tylenol is coffee--Starbucks (strong) coffee. We're not supposed to drink it, but I do when I've got a migraine and can hardly move b/c of the pain.

I have a dr's appointment this afternoon but am so worried I'll get fobbed off with 'just take paracetamol' again. I'll have to really emphasise I have been taking them for the last 2 weeks and they don't help at all.

I hope he can give me something that works.

xx

You could ask about taking codeine too hun. Really emphasise how much it is affecting your life, if you are unable to eat etc let him/her know x

I will do; my appetite is pretty shot as I feel nauseous when I have a migraine, it also affects work as I work on a computer all day in an artificially lit office so am struggling to concentrate. Am here today but looking at the screen for too long is torture, might ask manager if I can go a bit earlier today, hope she's ok about it as I am manning the parent helpline today. x
