MIL dropped by out of the blue early this morning *grrr* to bring me a bunch of charms and religious bands she wants me to tie around my waist as much as possible to keep the baby healthy (dead serious). She also asked to see the most recent ultrasounds that we got last week when we found out that we're team pink. She took one look at the ultrasound and said "Oh well that's OBVIOUSLY a boy. The doctor surely got it wrong". Whatever. I would have just shrugged it off but after she left she text my husband to tell him not to buy anything for the baby until the next appointment (in a MONTH!) because she's sure it's a boy. We haven't bought a single thing for the baby waiting for our gender scan and we were going to go on Father's Day and buy the first bits for our daughter but NOW the MIL has scared my husband into thinking the doctor was wrong so now he doesn't want to buy anything yet just in case. :growlmad:

This woman has NEVER had an ultrasound herself (both of her kids are over 30 so she never had one), and her daughter has never been pregnant. I don't know why she thinks she suddenly knows more about ultrasounds than my OBGYN but oh well. Damage is done now.

Here is the potty shot. Does anyone see anything there that suggests a boy? I'm not getting it.

I honestly have no idea what I'm looking at lol so I don't know how she would know, unless she thought maybe the leg (I think thats what I'm seeing) was a boy part.. I've adopted this "genuine smart ass tone" when people try to tell me thinks about obstetrics and my baby and my health, when I tell them I had no idea they took any obstetrics courses :haha: Usually they can't tell if I'm being a smart ass or sincere but it usually shuts them up.

Looks GIRLY to me :) take no notice, she's never even had them herself lol :) the only thing I'd advise is to not buy any of the BIG expensive items til it's been doubly confirmed, but certainly doesn't look boy to me!! And he ultrasound tech is way more qualified than your MIL!

Just tell your husband that you'll buy smaller items, so Father's day will still be special, but then you wouldn't lose too much money if by some rare fluke his mum was right xxxxxxxxx

Hahaha sorry just had to laugh a bit, with the charms and what not. And that is a girl, I was confirmed a girl at 16 weeks and 20 and our shots are similar!! MIL's can be funny creastures at time!! Mine too was convinced I was having a boy so I had my ultrasound tech write girl on my photo in big letters!! Good luck to you... :flower:

It is kinda funny cos of the culture clash, but you seem to have a very positive outlook on life in general :) I have no idea about the us. To be honest, I am annoyed by gender guessing posts cos I never see anything, they are all a blur to me. My boy was sticking out very obviously but it can be seen in the video not in the picture... anyways, patience with her, just don't pay attention to her...

I see no evidence of boy at all. My boys' parts were clear as day!

That is definitely a girl. Ignore her and go buy as much girly stuff as your heart desires! In having my 2nd boy and trust me, the balls and penis are like BAM! So obvious.

Here is my little boy's potty shot. I would definitely say yours is a girl. I think what she may see is the cord, that would make her think boy. Good luck with everything, and I agree with pp. Buy small items so his father's day is still very special.

:haha: Yup! Twigs and berries, on display!

Definitely looks girly to me as well. Just keep all receipts for anything you buy but I would try to convince dh that MIL is not a trained professional and shouldn't be allowed to ruin his Father's Day like that. :hugs:

go shop girl- that is totally a girl! im having my 4th girl so I will back you 100% on saying your mil is wrong!

I think she thinks the thigh is a penis viewed side on. Did you point out what angle she's looking at?

Haha oh my goodness.

I can kinda relate. We did not find out the gender at our 20 week ultrasound but instead had the tech write down the gender results in an envelope. We had sent out invitations for our gender reveal party But in the meantime, posted a picture of my 20 week ultrasound on Facebook. It didn't take long for me to regret this decision. My mother and good friend (who is also like a second mother to me) went on and on in the comments about how they have seen so many ultrasounds and KNOW that they see boy parts. They did not let up on this at all. My mother wasn't able to make it to my gender reveal party but my good friend did. She even HANDMADE me a boy blanket that she brought to my party and gave it to me before the actual gender reveal.

I love them both but I was just very upset because even IF it was true that they could see boy parts...it made me feel that they were (unintentionally) ruining our very special and important moment that we spent so much time organizing and planning to make perfect. Its one thing to say what your intuition is but they took it way too far. it really did make me emotional.

Then came the time to cut the cake...it was PINK!!!!!! IN YO FACE!!!!
I was SOOO glad they were wrong!!! not just because I was hoping more for a girl but that I really wanted to be surprised and for a moment..they crushed that.
