We're team green, we have decided on James Daniel for a boy (both our fathers names) and...

Everly for a girl. My grandmother just passed away suddenly and I decided to use her name, Lourdes, for middle name. DH thinks it's ugly but he's okay with it if I insist. I would still be okay with a tribute of "Lou"... what do you think?

Should we use Everly Lourdes or Everly Lou?

I like Lourdes, it's different but beautiful x

what about using Lou but having it as a different name? a tribute but not replication

ideas:

Louisa
Louanne
Marylou

Lourdes is beautiful as a middle name. I dont think Lou by itself looks complete.

go with the full name. its not like middle neams really get used. Its lovely. my dh nan died recently and if we have a girl her middle name will be after her, patricia...im not a fan of the name but love the sentiment.

I am not keen on Lourdes but love that is has meaning. I personally wouldn't use just Lou as that is more of a nickname than a full name to me. How about compromising with Louise/Louisa?

I'm a bit appalled at the suggested whitewashing of a spanish name. Louisa? Eek.

I think I'll keep pushing for Lourdes. DH is being really stubborn about this but I did convince him that no one uses middle names anyway.

I think you're being overly dramatic (and rude when people were just taking the time to assist in your problem) I for one didn't even know the origin of the name, surely by shortening to "Lou" you are "white washing" as you so call it because it is now completely indistinguishable from Lourdes specifically as so many names start with Lou, in the UK Lou is most commonly a nick name for Louise. If the Spanish element is important to you, you need to tell your husband it's Lourdes or something else.

Wow only trying to help. Guess I know whose threads I will avoid in future. Not very nice to be rude when people are making suggestions.

the only thing appauling was that come back and the amazing ability to make innocent, helpful comment into a race thing

I have no idea what the actual point your attempting to make is but:

lourdes -> lou -> louisa... its a very simple unoffensive connection that incoperates lou and is pretty and sweet

I am over-reacting and I apologize for being evil! I'm actually upset at DH because we're having a culture clash in a few ways right now and it's not your fault. He's very anglo-saxon and from an area that doesn't even have any hispanic people at all so this happens from time to time.

We decided to go with Everly Jean. Jean is my best friends middle name and she's very close to me.

I'm sad that I am not going to be able to honor my grandmother but DH made a good point that our kid won't know my grandmother but will be close to my best friend.

Not to throw a spanner in the works but couldn't you still use Lourdes as a second middle name?

We thought of that. I actually have two middle names. DH still doesn't like it. I think I'm going to leave it alone until we're further along in the pregnancy.

I'm pretty sure he's freaking out a little right now after we went over hospitals and things that could happen during the pregnancy. Acting a bit like me -- worrying over everything.

Me and oh are worriers too but I'm sure everything will be fine.maybe when LOs born he will be more agreeable to Lourdes. I think oh was in such a stTe of shock when LO was born, I could have called him anything and he would have gone with it. (Although LO didn't have a name for 3 days!!)
