After a long think I have decided to do my college course over 2 years instead of 1 - il be doing 3 hours a week but this means I cannot claim ALG . Any ideas what prt time students can claim ( noting the fact my partner works full time )

I owuldn't have thought you could claim anything and might even have to pay for the course :-(
If you get WTC I think you can get the course paid. Colleges have a discretionary fund which you can apply to once you have started the course. You just fill in a form explaining the costs you are incurring (e.g. books, travel) and they decide if, and how much, they will give you to help you continue.

Maybe you could see if they have an advisor at the college who can give you more info? Hope you get it sorted - it seems unfair you could end up struggling just because your OH works to provide for his child.

How old are you? (sorry personal question i know!) Only I work in a college and if you are under a certain age you can get a number of things free. What sort of course are you doing? Message me if you dont want to post on here :)

Well depending on which course you are doing then it could be free!
Also you may be entitled to free childcare to (or childcare at a very reduced rate).
Best thing to do is to visit the college you intend to go to and see what help they can give. Good luck :)
