:crib: Im undecided... When I had my daughter we got a moses basket, but she seemed to grow out of it soooooo fast. I think cribs look stronger too. Was just being nosey really to see what you lovely girlies will be buying? We also have a dog ( who is very very well behaved ) but do you think that theres more chance of knocking a moses basket over than a crib? She doesnt run around the house anyway because shes getting an old girl now but Im just trying to think of every pro and con. Can you think of any? Thankyou in advance :hugs: Hope that you and bumps are well!!!!:baby:

I've got a moses basket, I think thats the best option for me, but as this is our first, I'm sure I'll learn the pro's and cons soon enough :)

Moses baskets are great hun, dont get me wrong... I was just wondering if cribs were any better with never having one.. :) xx

I had a moses basket for my son simply because it was given to me and i bought new bedding.

In my honest opinion I would not go out and buy a new moses basket unless you have no room for a cot in your room, because they grow out of them so soon. Our LO will be in her cot in our room until she goes into her own room (or share with my son if we cant get moved)

I'm thinking of goinng for a crib rather than a moses basket. I was worried that baby would be too big for a moses basket a lot sooner than a crib - but I may be completely wrong as this is my first prgnancy!

I'm not in the 2nd tri but saw this thread so hope you don't mind me replying!!

We had a swinging crib for Joe and he's been in it since birth until tonight, thats when we're moving him to his cot! It's been the best buy we made :) We also have a dog and decided on the crib as I was worried about the moses stand being knocked over.

Hope that helps x

we're going with a crib as my parents are giving us my old one. we'll have her in our room in the crib for about 6 months i imagine, & then move her into the nursery into her cot.
xx

baby will have a crib here (as my auntys giving me her old one) and a moses basket in her her dads as she'll be there more during the day and here at night also theres not as much space in his house. My friend used a moses basket for her little girl she was in it about 3 months then got too big for it

We are getting a crib, my sister had a rocking crib and said it was great. I will use the carrycot part of my pram as a moses basket substitute during the day if needed (lots of people i know did this and it was fine). I like moses baskets but think i wont get my moneys worth so to speak. Hope that helps. x

I was looking at moses baskets and cribs today........am definitely going for a crib......they look really sturdy and reckon baby will be okay in that for at least 6 months......saw one in Mothercare that was £120 however looked on Babysrus website and they have them reduced from £159 to £79.99 with a mattress.....
Love the way they swing and they look so cute!!

I was wandering this i bought a moses basket with ds and he was only in it until he was 3 months old I really wanted a crib this time but my sister has given me her moses basket and now everyone is saying its no point in wasting money i may aswell keep the moses basket and spend the money on something else. So i really dunno, sorry cant be of much help

We bought both. Moses basket for the first few months so he can sleep next to our bed in the bedroom. Cotbed for when he outgrows the moses basket and can sleep in his own room. I do realise he won't use the cotbed for what seems like ages, but if you go with the moses basket option, you will need a cot eventually so we just wanted to start getting his room set up... and it didn't look right without a cot.

I just think having a moses basket next to the bed with baby in it will be worth it to just be able to grab the baby in the night when he cries, feed him, put him back and go back to sleep without getting up. Plus, we can bring the moses basket downstairs for him to sleep in while we are watching television, cooking dinner, eating, etc. (because his bedroom w/ cot is all the way upstairs)

Not going to buy a moses basket because I've been warned that babies grow out of them very quickly, but I think they're really cute. Not going to get a crib either, just gonna buy a cot/cotbed straight away. xxx

Hi, I had a swinging crib for my son and daughter but then sold it as I didn't think I was going to be having anymore beanies, but then we decided to have another, lol. The swinging crib was great because it was sturdy and obviously bubs could be rocked back and forward during the night if they were unsettled. The only thing for me and this might just be a personal thing was that a moses basket seemed cosier and better suited to a newborn. I know they grow out of them quite quickly but the crib just looked enormous in comparison to this tiny little bundle of baby. Another thing I didn't like about the crib was that when they were sleeping and moved their little hands/arms would bang off the wooden side which sometimes startled them and woke them up. The crib lasted though, my daughter (now 6) and son (now 4) both used it and it was still in excellent condition when I sold it.
This time round I have bought a moses basket, mainly because it was in the sale at John Lewis and an excellent bargain but also I preferred the moses basket in general. After bubs has grown out if it, he/she will be going into a cotbed xx

we're getting a Pack N' Play :) we'll have that in our rom so when hes a newborn he'll sleep in the room with us and when he's older well use a crib! but the pack n' plays are good for traveling too! its like a mobile crib!

I am starting off with a moses basket then moving baby to a cot when it grows out of the moses basket :)

seeing as cribs cost nearly as much as a proper cot and they are not really that much bigger than a moses basket I dont see the point of them personally. I think its a luxury some can afford, they look nice and you can rock them to sleep but thats all really.
I much prefer the manoeuverability and simpleness of the basket which will only get used for around 5-6 months, then baby can go straight in the cot.

Thanks for all of your replies girls :hugs: Think im going to go for a crib xx

hiya,

This is our first baby, and like you were really undecided!
But we have decided to go with a moses basket. We don't have a huge house, and so not much space for a crib!
The nursey will have a cot-bed, and a few people have told me that a plus to having a moses basket is that in the transition period, you can out the moses basket into the cot, so they can get used to their new surroundings whilst having the comfort of their old one!
Also, for me I think a moses basket is more suitable for us as i can take it up and down the stairs!!

I did however think long and hard about a canvas folding crib - maybe sturdier than normal moses basket, but slightly smaller than crib, and it folds away for easy storage!!

Happy Buying!

XxX
