Hi all

I've booked a holiday abroad and LO will be 18 months old when we go.

I was just wondering if mummies of 18 month olds could tell me a little about what your babies are like; what they do, what they eat, how they sleep etc.

I know each child is different, but I'd like to know what we've gotten ourselves into!

Xx

My LO is 19 months old :flower:

He's a very good eater. He has a main meal at lunchtime usually but sometimes if we go out for dinner as a family he'll have his main meal in the evening. Some examples of what he likes; salmon and broccoli bake, pasta bolognese, chicken with veggies and rice, stir fry. He might have beans on toast, a sandwich or an omelette in the evening. The only thing he isn't too keen on is fruit, which I find odd since its sweet! Much prefers vegetables.

Sleep wise, he's great too. Sleeps 7pm until 7am ish, with a two hour nap in the day. I would say that I wouldn't know what to do in the evening on holiday. He loves his sleep but he insists on it being in his cot. He won't sleep in a pushchair or the car. So if we were on holiday I'd probably keep him up a little later so we could have dinner, maybe till 8pm then put him to bed. Of course you may have an LO who is happy to sleep in a pushchair in the evenings which would make it much easier.

This is his normal day:

7am - wake up
7.30am - breakfast, usually porridge followed by a beaker of milk
11.45am - lunch
12.30pm - nap
2.30pm - wake up
5pm - dinner
6.15pm - bath
6.45pm - beaker of milk and a story
7pm - bed

Willow is 17 months, she's just started walking but still prefers crawling, active and very mobile, doesn't stay still. mischievous and inquisitive she wants to touch and look at anything and everything, especially if it's out of bounds. She's clingy in new situations but soon warms up as long as I remain in sight.

She still has a bottle in the morning, then is very much a snacker rather than eating meals, seems to continuously munch on finger foods but won't eat anything "proper" like cottage pie/pasta, she still has one bowl of purée a day as its the only way she gets any vegetables. (she's always been a particularly bad eater) other drinks during the day are via a straw now.

Sleep wise, she has one nap for 1.5-2.5 hours a day, over midday, then goes down at 7pm for night sleep, waking a couple of times a night for cuddles or comfort. She self settles....but only in her own cot, nowhere else and now doesnt nap in the pushchair or car.

The only thing I didn't expect was that, from a year, she's been very good at throwing absolute meltdown tantrums....

Thank you both, fab detail which is just what I was after. LO is a big eater already, for lunch she had a 10 minute feed from me, some veg risotto and a bit of pudding so I'm hoping that will just progress with her age. She also sleeps anywhere when she's tired (thank god). I've asked the hotel for one of the rooms with a little garden so We have a little place where she can let of some steam.

Are your little ones talking much? May be a really silly question so I'm blaming first time mum syndrome... :)

Xx

Not a silly question!

My LO doesn't say any recognisable words at the moment. I'm trying not to be too concerned because he understands an awful lot and communicates with us. Every LO is different, some won't really start saying much until gone age 2 and others start a lot earlier.

Few fairly useless words, none that actually help in parenting....like duck, hiya, bye, ta, no, uh oh, then a range of animal noises :) x

Thanks again ladies :)

I feel really clueless about development etc and what I should expect by what age. I'm more of a day to day mum and feel a bit stupid at times, LO seems to be doing well; she rolls, babbles, sits alone and is almost crawling but I have no idea when she should be doing this by or what to expect next!
