Do you give your babies 'drinks' - say water or juice?

I'm told that when you are FF that you give drinks of water at a certain point as the formula is all one consistancy where as BM is fore and hind, so the fore is the 'drink' if you like.

My MIL is OBSESSED with me getting to give Hebe a drink of water or juice and I dont want to. Fortunately I tend to ignore her anyway.

Hebe wees lots and I offer her mimi at regular intervals. She will have a drink some times and other times a proper feed.

Anyone else just giving BM to drink? I know I could give it to her in a sippy cup but I dont see the point:shrug:

Not even weaning but my mil has the same obsession with giving water

i give faith milk in her doidy cup cause she wont take any kind of bottle... its just to keep it familier so that her dad can feed her when im gone.

i keep geting mil types trying to get me to give her juice i dont want her to have juice its full of crap..... i think its a generation thing maybe?

I only did because I wanted Hayden to get used to a sippy cup, I tried BM in it once and he was NOT happy with me, wondering what in the world that was doing in some cup lol. So from then on I only offered water in it, and only during meal times or if it was really hot and we were out or something. He seriously drank maybe 4oz total from 6-14mo lol. He would take a sip here and there, but I offered anyways. At about 14 mo or so we introduced rice milk, which he loved and he started taking that during the day and only nursing at night and inthe morning. But he now expects a drink with meals, which I like because my oldest he would just down his drinks like if he set it down and picked it up again it would magically disappear...he had to drink it all at once. So with offering it to Hayden at meals, asking him if he wanted some between bites, things like that it taught him I guess how you are supposed to drink, kwim? Even now if he does ask for a drink between meals he will just sip on it for awhile, instead of drinking it all down and wanting a full cup again later, he just learned I guess how to drink better if that makes any sense lol

I only give juice at meal time and that was because she was having trouble pooing and was in much pain. I give her Breast milk any other time.

P.S My mum is the same, she read in some magazine the most comment ailment in under ones is dehydration so now she's alwasy telling me to give a drink.

Jack has a drink of water with his meals.

I FF and still dont give water or juice... She doesnt need it.

Like mommyof3co, I only gave Aaron water to get him used to drinking out of a sippy cup. He didn't need it, as breastmilk provides all the water they need at that age.

I give Tabs juice at mealtimes like lilbump cos she seems to find it really hard to go to the toilet :( Also its easy if she's thirsty when we go out. But she's only just started drinking from it really. Was sooo worried she'd want it more than mre

I offer Pops a sippy cup with water in at lunchtime and tea time. I just think it's a good idea to get her used to a cup as she has never got on with bottles so cups might be our only way of giving her milk when I'm not around. She is only just starting to drink some, after two months of having it offered every day (lord knows where she gets the stubborness from ) Plus, I think it's nice to have a swig of water with a meal. Helps to was it all down IYKWIM.

And, what is it about MILs!? Mine is the same. She kept reminding me when we were going to Spain, "don't forget to offer water!" I mean, how on earth does she think people in hot countries manage when they breastfeed their babies!?:dohh:

Poppy has a sippy cup of water with every meal. She's at the stage where just picks it up and drinks from it herself now. Not sure it's because she's thirsty or because she's just learnt how to do it?!

I give Brenn a sippy cup of water. Sometimes he drinks loads, especially if we have been outside as it is already getting hot down here.

My Mum and Nanna always used to bang on at me about this. I kept telling them that breastfed babies need no other drinks whatsoever but they'd still ask me each time I saw them:hissy::hissy::hissy::hissy::hissy::hissy:
