Asalamalaikum , I thought I would start this new thread so INSHA'ALLAH we all can keep in touch with one another even meet new sisters INSHA'ALLAH introduce ourselves and discuss topics or anything so I look forward to talking to you all :D :hugs::flower::flower::flower:

Ill start off with introducing myself. My name is Rukshana im 20 years old married alhumdolilah no children yet but INSHA'ALLAH soon i hope :) , I live in canada and was born and raised in canada as well. hmm now that is finished because im not sure what else to write .. Ramadan is coming soon :) im looking forward to it how is everyone preparing for ramadan?.. well im going for now have to do some things around the house and cook by the way im making aloo gobi if anyone knows what that is ahaha ;) ALLAH HAFIZ :hugs::hugs::hugs::flower::flower::flower:

Wa Alaikum Assalam,

I am not Muslim but I am new to the board and looking around the religion section. I didn't want to read and run. What is aloo gobi if you don't mind sharing? How do you prepare for Ramadan?

your welcome here sister :D , aloo gobi is a dish consisting of cauliflower and potatoes its a indian/pakistani dish very delicious!.. well i prepare for ramadan by reading more quran and keeping steadfast with my prayers becoming more aware of my intentions in my heart , doing as many good deeds I can do intention really plays a role in this as well because whats a good deed if you dont have pure intention in your heart, watching my character and trying to improve myself as much as possible this should not only be for ramadan but its a good reminder :) and these help Ramadan is a very blessed month with many rewards it teaches us many things MASHA'ALLAH its a time to practice self restraint , to cleanse the mind and body of impurities and refocus on our worship with ALLAH

Asalamalaikum . My name is Nora, I'm 32. Omar is my 1st. I'm syrian but born & live in th UAE.

Until now all the preparation for Ramadan is preparing food like Kebbeh & pastries & freezing them

This Ramadan Inshallah I'm planning to go to the mosque for prayer, last Ramadan I was busy with Omar as he was still a baby. Hopefully this Ramadan it would be easier. Omar was going through a sleep regression during ramadan, & it was very challenging with fasting & taking care of him.

Good luck & Inshallah you get a BFP soon xx

Walaikum assalam!

I am a recent convert to Islam and won't be fasting due to pregnancy but I want to make this Ramadan feel "special" for my 4 year old daughter and I'm trying to figure out some ways to do that. So far I plan on making the home look festive with lights and I will write Ramadan Karim in our window :)

I will print off some lanterns for her to colour in and mosques. I will try to teach her one simple thing about the month per day. At her age, I want her to arrive at Eid feeling like this was a holiday type of time, even if both parents are working full time all month and there is no big party like there is for Christmas...

I hope to make 30 rings linked together with construction paper counting down to Eid and we will find something special to do for Eid. We might follow the Egyptian tradition of giving her money so I'd get her a piggy bank and we could do that, to make it a bit different than gifts she gets at Christmastime.

Ramadan karim sisters, it's really right around the corner! May we all manage to attain our goals and please Allah :)

Can I ask a few questions?

My oh is a Muslim an me and lo don't see any of the women in th family so with rid comeing up I want to do something that can be a tradition for us as lo won't go to his grandmas house or anything so I just wondered what do you do as a family for eid? Do you decorate tge house I've read there's certain dishes cooked for tge different eids is this right?

Asalamalaikum ok im going to reply to each of you now because i have not been coming on here recently so thats why late replies sorry! , NORA i love your name :D your son is so cute MASHA'ALLAH i told you that already i think hehe i can deffinitley imagine how it was difficult for you and i do hope this ramadan is easier on you although a toddler is still going to be a challenge during ramadan but INSHA'ALLAH i hope everything goes smoothly for you :D and thankyou for the BFP wishes INSHA'ALLAH i hopeee soon thats my one wish really.

Asalamalaikum sister candice :D welcomee its so nice to see reverts MASHA'ALLAH :) and that sounds really good i think that would really get the kids excited about ramadan and enjoy and a good learning experience at the same time for them great ideas! and i think incorporating the money tradition would be good for your daughter too , alot of people do that. your daughter is lucky to have you and her father i know it must not be easy since your both full-time working but INSHA'ALLAH i hope everything works out how you planned :D and MASHA'ALLAH its so nice to see how dedicated you planned and the different ideas you have and would like to do to have a fun learning experience for her :D

asalamalaikum sophxx i think you should read candices comment above she had some great approaches for children and activites to make for learning about ramadan and at the same time having a fun approach i think its really important for children to understand ramadan its meaning, but specificly for eid that you asked about you can decorate your house usually people invite their friends and family over to the house or you go visit people in your case you can still invite your friends or your childrens friends over for eid they dont have to be muslim and yes there is not a specific dish cooked for eid because so many different backgrounds of people many of which have different special dishes like lebanese they have their own special recipes , pakistani have different special recpies also im not sure what your OH background is but maybe you can look into his background and their recipes...but you can find many of these recipes on the net and you can try to make them as well they are not that difficult there are different sweets and actual dishes some of the sweets you can buy from a store as well im not sure if in your area you have alot of like ethnic stores i guess? that sell these...if you dont want to make them if you have more questions on it i can help you further on that topic, also you can buy your children gifts like a new outfit as a present and also theres tradition of giving some money too its not a must but these are some options you can think about also some people the night before eid do henna designs on their hands and children really like that too.. theres alot of options which you can make you and your families tradition too but the most important aspect is really teaching them about what ramadan is anyways i hope i helped somewhat.. :D if you have more questions please do ask :)

Hi and Salaams,

I never knew this section of the boards existed. I am not a fully practising muslim, was born and raised as one, (pakistani parents but brought up in the UK) but have somewhat lapsed in recent years, my husband is fullly practising and never misses his prayers. We are raising our daughter as a Muslim, she loves trying to pray and can say a few arabic words as well as Urdu and of course English.

I will not be fasting this Ramadan as I am on medication which I have to take at set times of the day, however preperations for iftari have been ongoing for the last few weeks, mainly consisting of food prep, pastries, samosa's etc.

Hi and Salaams all

Ramadan Mubarak! I am an 'indigenous' English Muslim; I am a convert but officially converted at 15 and have realised more recently I was Muslim since I was 12 as I said my shahadah then and was slowly starting to be practicing but thought it had to be with witnesses (in the school of thought I follow I have found witnesses are optional for purely practical reasons and not a religious requirement), I have traced my ancestry and I have Yemenis who lived in Moorish spain as some of my direct ancestors and they were also closely related to some of the sahabah MashaAllaah. I will also not be fasting this year due to my son being around 90% still BF (and I believe that except for medical reasons BF is obligatory in Islam so don't want to jeopardise that) and having chronic fatigue syndrome; so fasting would most likely have a detrimental effect on both my milk supply and overall health based on past experience. My OHs 'native' cuisine is an amalgamation of Arabic, Indian/Bangladeshi/Sri Lankan and African but he isn't keen on any of it as it tends to be onion heavy and he is not an onion fan but we've just ordered the online shopping and will be preparing some light and healthy iftars.

For Eid; due to silly cultural reasons OHs family don't tend to celebrate much (yet every evening during ramadan is like a massive feast!) so we have to make our own celebrations; in the past we've taken the kids to the zoo or the aquarium or on a cruise on the thames; also we buy them new fancy thobes (traditional Arabic dress) though we have loads of new unworn ones this time as OH got loads from abroad last time he went that were several inches too long at the time, we also get sweets and cakes and nice pizzas etc to eat though the kids being sensible want healthy treats this time. I also print colouring pages off the internet and we make our own decorations. In the past OH would usually end up working on eid itself but with his new working hours this is unlikely so hopefully he can join in this time xx

Ramadan Kareem to you all and your families.

Asalamalaikum sister wow what a lovley large message :D it gets me excited reading hehe and thanks for your post, i understand about your not fasting alot of people have reasons why they cant fast and no one else should judge them for that it is between them and ALLAH so i do understand :) hopefully you can fast next year INSHA'ALLAH , and thats exciting you traced your ancestory how did you go about doing that? and oh wow about your oh not liking onions because that really is the base of all the dishes that would be a bit difficult to stay away from that cuisine because its so delicious but at the same time he doesnt like onions , and that sounds good about light and healthy iftars people tend to gain weight in ramadan ahaha even though it shouldnt be that way neccisarily i have a funny youtube video on this matter its like a small cartoon i think you would enjoy aha
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNfQNRpIw4E&f
i just giggled when i watched it :D we dont tend to celebrate that much as well because our whole family is not with us and no children yet so its not a huge thing as it would be, but i do henna and small things for enjoyment..ooh arabic traditional dresses are nice where is your oh originally from?? thats so nice about the decorations and all great ideas :D and i hope your oh is able to joing you and he gets off work...he could say its a religious holiday his work would have to give him off .. take care ALLAH HAFIZ :hugs:
