Rio is very poorly, he has a runny nose, inflamed throat, and the worst rough cough I have ever heard but the doctor said it's viral and hasn't given him anything.
Today he has also woken with conjunctivitis in both eyes so I am taking him back for some antibiotics this morning.
He has been awake all night crying, dropping off to sleep then waking because of his cough, vicious circle.
I feel like such a shit mother because I just can't seem to stop him from crying :( he gets so angry with me, I cuddle him and he clearly wants to fall asleep but can't and gets frustrated which works him up even more.
I have had no sleep, but I really don't mind, I have all the patience in the world with him so it's not because I'm getting ratty with him.
I just feel like he thinks it's me that's making him feel poorly :( he's being so off with me, and I know that sounds ridiculous for a 9 month old baby. But he is :(

Any tips on helping LO to sleep through this horrible cough and cold? :( I hate this and feel useless x

Aww, poor Rio. I've nothing new to suggest I'm afraid. You are probably already trying everything I can think of...humidifier, Albas oil, saline for his congestion, elevation of mattress if possible. Will he sleep in the pram sat up? You could wrap up and go for a long walk at his nap time. The fresh air might help his congestion abit. I hope he feels better soon. Aiden is the same most of the time with cuddles..he just doesn't want them and gets more fretful. Hugs x

I would take to docs to rule out a infection like ear or chest. That could be your answer right there xx hugs try the calpol plug in xx

vics on his feet! really helpful for a cough, worked on all 3 of my kids - and me! x

Thanks ladies!
He's already been to the doctors to rule out infection once, but im taking him back today as he needs antibiotics for his eyes.
id completely forgotten about the vicks on feet, worked for us last time! thank you :)

and sezzolou, good idea about the walk! I hadn't thought of it like that, I just thought id better not take him out in case he got worse.. but as long as hes warm, and we are moving, he will sleep in his pram! not if its still at home unfortunately, little monkey x

Elijah has just got over a really bad cold! He had a horrible hacking cough and really stuffy nose. He couldn't sleep very well because he won't sleep without his dummy and he couldn't breathe with it in.
We got him calpol tickly cough syrup and it worked a treat!! We also used calpol nasal saline solution to clear out his nose and sinuses. He slept so much better the night we used them. You can also buy calpols plug in diffuser which puts out a sort of Vicks like scent into the air to help them breathe easier.
Or snuffle babe works a treat! It's like baby Vicks rub. Put it on his feet and cover them with socks.
Can you tell we tried everything?? Haha.

Baby olbus oil works for my toddler i put a tiny bit on the corner of his pillow n it helps him breath. U do need to make sure u dnt put it on anything they may put in there mouth tho x

First, you're not a failure and sounds like you're doing exactly the right things. It's awful when they're sick, but it's what's meant to happen at this time in their lives (my GP says it's nature's own immunisation programme!). Try whatever works to make him comfortable and get some sleep. For us, my daughter usually sleeps on my lap during the day when she's sick. Try anything that works - go for a walk, go for a drive, lie down in bed together and both take a nap. Whatever works. Give Calpol regularly to make him comfortable, even if he doesn't have a fever. Also, just know it will have an end. My daughter had a month of bronchiolitis (got it once, just as it started to clear up, she got it again for another 2 weeks). It was hell. She slept every single nap for that month lying again my chest. We've also just (barely) come out of 2 weeks of the same sort of throat and chest infection that it sounds like Rio has. It's going around right now and several friends and their babies also have it. We both also got conjunctivitis. Your GP might give you antibiotic drops if it looks particularly bad. But most conjunctivitis is viral (this is especially the case if baby already has a virus) and the antibiotics won't do anything but make him more miserable and cause you stress trying to get them in. We saw the GP for ours but he recommended just giving it time. It cleared up in a few days without any treatment other than twice daily cleaning. My friend on the other hand is on week 3 of conjunctivitis and has been on two different antibiotics and nothing has helped! So don't feel discouraged if they don't offer treatment for it as well. I did at first, but actually it went away easily anyway, which was much better than being on a week of yucky eye drops. In the meantime, just do whatever you need to to make him comfortable and throw any routine out the window. He'll be back to himself soon enough.

I'm having the same issues with my LO at the moment.

She sucks her fingers for comfort and for sleeping. She kept waking up on Friday night as she can't suck her fingers and breath through her nose at the moment.
She also has gunky eyes so we have had lots of cuddles this weekend (she isn't a huge cuddler).

Last night I put snuffle babe on her feet - had completely forgotten we had any and she was a lot more settled with her nose. It was just her cough waking her up every 30 mins.

Thanks ladies. We have been given eye drops for the conjunctivitis, saline spray to unblock his nose and medicine for his cough. I brought some more snuffle babe and olbas oil so hopefully we will have a better night tonight x

Vicks humidifier with baby Olbas oil. It cleared up his nose, chest and eyes DH and I smelled of menthol.
It genuinely worked.
